- It is truly a sad sight to see an athlete riddled with nagging to serious injuries from a lack of mobility and technique. This is especially true for athletes or fitness enthusiasts who incorporate advanced Olympic lifts into their workouts. DF member trainerty is a big believer in the idea you need to crawl before you walk. He shares the top three aspects you should know when training with the Olympic lifts, but his ideas and recommendations are also helpful for the traditional bodybuilder, powerlifter, and CrossFitter. Read what trainerty has to say in his DYNAMIC DRILLS FOR OLYMPIC LIFTS.
- DF member standAPART shares his professional trainer wisdom with his thought-provoking article FIVE EXERCISES EVERYONE SHOULD BE ABLE TO PERFORM. Before you rush over to the bench press for a Monday universal bench press day workout, spend some time doing the exercises standAPART outlines in his article.
- Are you tired of your morning oatmeal? DF member IronMan is. He has been eating oatmeal everyday for the past 4 years and he tells us he is getting tired of its taste and texture. I’M TIRED OF OUTMEAL! By DF member IronMan I’ve been eating oatmeal everyday for the past 4 years and I’m getting tired of its taste and texture! I’ve done everything there is to do to oatmeal to improve its flavor – and while cooking tricks like adding fruit, syrup, etc. have worked well, it has been a significant time with no change and the tricks I’m using are getting old. My problem is that I like what oatmeal does for me and I don’t want to give up its many benefits (listed according to the American Cancer Society): |

DYNAMIC DRILLS FOR OLYMPIC LIFTS by DF member trainerty It is truly a sad sight, to see an athlete riddled with nagging to serious injuries from a lack of mobility and technique. This is especially true for athletes or fitness enthusiasts that incorporate advanced Olympic lifts into their workouts. I am a big believer in the idea you need to crawl before you walk. This idea manifests in your workouts. An athlete needs to warm-up properly before training with the big Olympic lifts. If you don’t warm-up properly, you’re just setting yourself up for a bone-head injury. Here are the top three aspects you should know when training with Olympic lifts: |

FIVE EXERCISES EVERYONE SHOULD BE ABLE TO PERFORM by DF member standAPART I am often confused at why personal trainers always begin new client’s exercise program on some sort of strength training circuit or group exercise class. I often wonder what is the trainer thinking when they are devising this person’s exercise program? Were they thinking at all? I know 95% of client goals are based on fat loss and none of them ever “want to be an athlete”. But do you know how many times I have told clients, “You don’t want to be an athlete, but you want to look like one?” |

Do you plan on setting 2008 measurable fitness goals? I did last year and have failed to achieve many of them. But I had fun trying and I will definitely set new goals for 2008. These goals will more than likely be different than the ones I set for 2007 based lessons I learned in chasing my 2007 goals.
Why don’t you join me for 2008? I’ll help you by giving you some structure. Read on and I’ll describe the seven attributes of functional fitness you can use in defining your 2008 measurable fitness goals. |

Sticking points….who doesn’t hate them as well as suffer from them from time to time? Rep after rep, set after set, workout after workout, grinding away hoping to make some sort of progress and frustrated by the seemingly impenetrable barrier holding progress at bay. Then the low energy day hits and progress is not only halted, but seems to be waning. It is enough to make even the most dedicated lifter dread the next workout. |

Here’s how to make your own adjustable, durable, and mess-free sandbag. The basic idea is that you will create “filler” bags that will be of varying weights, and these filler bags will then be placed in the larger, tougher outer bag. |

So what are the biggest excuses for not wanting to start working out? Come on, you know you’ve heard them all; you’ve probably even used a few yourself. “I don’t feel like driving to the gym after work.” For me, hearing these excuses is roughly as enjoyable as hearing Gilbert Gottfried sing Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You”. Actually, that would be pretty funny, but I digress. Fortunately for you and unfortunately for the excuse-makers, after reading this article, no longer will those excuses apply. I’m going to tell you how to get a top to bottom workout, at home, with one of the most economical and effective training implements known to man, the sandbag. |
