Christmas memories

Christmas memories - what are yours? We all have them. Some to share and some to keep very private deep in our brains and hearts.

I'll share one of mine.

I remember owning a Gene Autry Christmas song cassette that we would always play over and over during the Christmas season, primarily driving around in my old 1988 Volvo 240DL (the one I kept for over 300,000 miles) with my wife and 2 children.

I liked that collection of Christmas songs so much that I eventually bought it in a CD version and listened to it often, both my wife and I and, just as often, myself after our children were grown up and on their own.

Then someone broke into my car and stole my CD collection and my CD player which I have not (and will not) replace. But those songs still ring loud and clear in my mind along with all the pleasant memories associated with them.

So here is one of those songs that I just stumbled across. Enjoy if you have the time for some old-fashioned Christmas cheer.

I can never shake the bad memories as a child when the old man would get tanked up and come home to beat mum and us kids.
That is why i endured to get a black belt and train to be big.
One yr he came home to meet an angry young giant.
I think he stopped his flight at the next wall, Funny he behaved after that episode.
Now as a father of an 19 and 13 yr old i love x mas, its my time to enjoy quality time with my boys who i only see at holiday times (divorced)

So on a better note, All you people have the best merry season going

Bodyshop, I'm sorry that you had to experience that as a young child. Amazing how negative experiences motivate and influence our pursuits in life. I hope you have had the opportunity to forgive your father and thank him for giving you life.

I never cared for Christmas, stopped celebrating it when I was 5. I just thought it was wrong for everyone else to get presents on someone's birthday. Then about 8 or 9 years old, my studies of science taught me that it really wasn't his B-day and I decided that the day of his death was much more important. Then when I was working on my divinity degree, I learned that all the things I'd thought as a child were all true.

Then when I met my wife, I started celebrating again just for the togetherness and closeness of family during that time of year.

Right now, I really can't think of one in particular that I would call my favorite Christmas memory.

Pierini, i never forgave him or my mother for allowing it.
Have not spoken to them in 30yrs, they dont even know their granchildren.
Some scars are just to deep to fill.
My life is now full with my toy girl of 30 and my boys
