? about weighted cable crunches

I personally don't have a cable crunch machine, but I was thinking of improvising. What about buying one of those resistance bands and putting it around a hook in my wall, and doing crunches on my bench (or something similiar)? Also, do these crunches work the lower abs?

an even easier way.....and the way i do it.

Hook your feet under something, hold a dumbbell or plate across your chest and do your crunches or situps.

They work bloody well!!!

Noland Yes that will work, and yes the whole ab section comes into play there.

When I used to work out at home, I would kneel on my bench and use my high pulley for cable crunches. If you don't have a lat machine then do the crunches with plate on chest if this isn't enough try holding the plate behind your head as this will hit your abs harder. By the way abs are actually one large muscle and any excercise that works it works the whole thing.

I was just thinking of the bands cuz the resistance would be at its strongest when fully flexed, and theyve worked for me for curls and sides and stuff

it may work if the resistance is strong enough. Give it a try if it works great if not find another use for the band.

It would depend on the resistance of your band, weighted crunches require a lot of counter-weight.

Well this may sound ghetto but i was thinking of tying weight to one side of a rope and having it hang over a crossbeam in my garage and hold the other side as i would at the gym.

Any ab exercise that secures/hooks/stabilizes your feet, will recruit (and strengthen) your hip flexors and psoas. So if that's your goal, hook away.
