18 egg whites and 3 yolks; too much?!
Hey guys,
It's been ten weeks that I have started SERIOUSLY to lose fat. I am now 226 pounds (I used to be 255!) and my body fat is 20%.
I really love eggs. I can't get enough of them. I have 18 egg whites and 3 yolks and also 300g of chicken breast, which is my primary protein supply. I have around 200g of protein everyday. I feel great. no problem.
My question: in the long run, is what I'm doing (eating) going to hurt my body?? is it hard for my stomach to digest all these egg whites?? is it going to mess up my liver, kidney or sth??
p.s. I boil the eggs hard.

No, best protein you can eat = egg whites. Limit the yolks, too much fat in them.

If its giving you the results you want, then it's probably not hurting you. If you start having indigestion or other problems...then it's probably not working.
I agree with firehawk, it's good protein.

Higher protein diets won't cause you any trouble assuming you have no pre-existing kidney problems. I am a big fan of eggs as well. I don't necessarily agree with discarding the yolks, I always eat the whole egg, usually to the tune of 8 or so per day with no ill effects. The yolk contains half the protien and the majority of the nutrients.
I could eat them for every meal if it were feasible.

If I remember correctly, dietary cholesterol has little to no effect on blood cholesterol levels (genetics is the biggest factor), so that shouldn't be a concern with the eggs. I'm with F_Mac, I always eat the whole thing these days, usually to the tune of about 3 or 4 a day. just seems like a waste to throw away a majority of the calories and protein.
This is a good article to read if you want a nutrition genius's point of view:

But it is feasible, do the math and you'll find that eggs contain the cheapest per gram of protein there is, right up there with buying protein shakes at wholesale prices.
I think people run into cholesterol problems when they put on fat, rather than eating alot of cholesterol in their diet and losing weight. I have eaten high protein for a couple years now, eaten plenty of egg yolks and red meat, but while keeping caloreis down, and my cholesterol was high to start with at 268 and came down to 137 with no drugs to help it and all I did was lose bodyfat.
It is interesting to hear the opinions of people at different spots in their physiques or with different genetics. I clearly have different genetics than Maverick. Mav is an ectomorph (correct me if I'm wrong) who added alot of muscle on. He has to fight to maintain it. F-mac works his ass off and has alot of muscle on him and alot of strength. Both of these guys don't really struggle with their weight though. I, on the other hand, can't just go off and eat 8 egg yolks every day or more than once a day. That fat intake will give me energy, but also the calorie intake is too high. If I'm supplying that kind of energy to my body, why would my body want to drop bodyfat?
For someone building muscle, I agree, eat the yolks. For someone trying to cut fat, I'd rather eat just the whites and 1-2 yolks and keep that diet as clean from fat as you can. Just my opinion.

Nail on the head... unless you are a big believer in macronutrient partitioning. If I wanna lose some fat, I'm gonna need some pure protein/fat meals. Nothing better for that than 4 whole eggs and some ham thrown in.
But for john q. fitness, I believe firehawk's advice is more applicable.

Agreed..........i was referring to feasibility more around preparing that many eggs over the course of a day.
Might be an interesting experiment though......

I usually eat 2-3 eggs a day, although yesterday I had 5! I have a very high fat diet, and if I needed to lose weight I would cut carbs before fats in my diet.
Mmmm eggs.
I believe it is possible to develop an allergy to a food if it is vastly overconsumed. But I have no source for this. Just think I read it somewhere.

Raw eggs are a poor protein source and are nutrient depleting

As Maverick said cholesterol does not raise cholesterol unless genetically disposed.
Short chained saturated fatty acids and trans fats are what raise cholesterol so things like dairy etc
