abs (sit ups)
I am trying to lose weight, especailly around the stomach area, basically lose inches. My stomach is beer belly like, but not huge. I guess its around 44 inches. Anyway. I heard that if I do situps with this stomach, I will not lose inches, and I will end up with the same round stomach, but harder. Is this true? I would appreciate it and if you could give me advice on how to flatten this round stomach, that would be great.

Flatten your stomach by losing fat, which means dieting and engaging in a lot more exercise than just ab work. Nothing else will work.
Situps are fine, but they recruit your hip flexors, as opposed to crunches, which are all ab. I don't really think it's crucial to totally isolate the muscle, since the body works as a system anyway, but crunches will hit them harder.

ABS ARE MADE IN THE KITCHEN, NOT IN THE GYM
if u want a flat stomch, forget about the training until u come up with a good clean cutting diet.
it doesn't matter how much u train...deeply crossed those tendons are...unless u have low bf%
are far as training goes, dont do sit ups they really aren't worth puting the stress on ur lower back
stick to crunches and leg lifts. that will flatten and tone your abs
to get those big rolling abs, go for cable crunches and weighted crunches/leg lifts

Yeah dude, I put like 45 lbs on my chest and do crunches or sit ups on an incline board. I still look soft in the middle (although I'm not). The point is unless you have a really clean diet, which I don't, ur not going to have it, what all these people are saying is totally correct.

I think they are the same thing... only a crunch doesn't have to be sitting up...
eg.. cable crunch, you can kneel down, grab a cable above your head and crunch down with it....
Anyways... think that's it.. lol

Dude, eat clean and workout is the only way. Too many people believe in the myth of "spot reducing", in reality it can't happen.
The only way to flatten you stomach is to drop body fat, I am quite experienced in round stomach but am glad to say mine is 'nearly' flat!!

Totally true, You cant just target a problem area and burn off fat. The body will lose fat all over. The place you have the most fat (gut) will be the last place the fat goes away. When I started my gut was 49 inches! I had to lose weight all over to make it go away. The diet is the key along with weight training to keep your muscle and cardio to help the fat burning process.
good luck.

The difference between a crunch and a sit up, as far as I can tell, is that a situp is one specific exercise, where a crunch is more of a generic name. It wouldn't suprise me if some one somewhere called a situp a "full crunch".

The truth is really, situps are more of a newbie exercise, they do some good, but not enough to be effective all the time, whereas a crunch or such like if done properly can always give a good workout.
