Exercises to strengthen the knees

I workout with weights twice a week and do cardio 3-4 times a week. Unlike the rest of my body, my knees feel like they're getting weaker (always sore). What can I do to strengthen them - I want to avoid high impact exercises. Any suggestions? Thanks.

give them rest if its the actual knee, something might have went wrong.

If that doesn't work probably go see your doctor, But if they're sore don't workout

Well unfortunately, I think all you can do is a High Impact exercise to strengthen them..... ATG squats, practice squatting taking your ass all the way down to the ground at a medium pace, and make sure your balanced well enough to explode back up... it takes practice, when I get to the bottom I fell like im gonna fall backward or forward. obviously alot easier when you have a spotter.

box jumps! (kidding)

do you stretch after working out? perhaps more stretching legs, and foam rolling might help. For me, i believe when I get knee pain it is related to my IT bands being tight and foam rolling is great for this I have found.

@minime

I get sore knees and hadn't thought of this approach - what is foam rolling and what exactly do you have to do?

Also, which stretches would you recommend?

just general stretching of quads, hammies and IT bands after working out (especially running) is beneficial i think.

I lie on my side and put the roller under my outer thigh : then I put all of my weight on it and proceed to roll back and forth. It is a hard foam, therefore it hurts like hell when you press it against tender/tight muscles! Feels great afterward.

Can be used on any part of the body, you just put the roller under said body part and roll around until you feel it is pressing against a tight muscle, then work it out!

You can buy them at target for $20 but I have only ever tried the ones at my gym, so don't know if they differ between brands.
