Question

Heavy day, light day & medium day, any good?

After 12 weeks of......

Monday - Chest, Tri's & Shoulders

Wednesday - Back & Bi's

Saturday - Legs & Ab's

.....I've decided to switch things up a bit. (even though I've made progress on the above routine)

As it happens I was reading an article in June's Musclemag Int where they gave an example of a strength program............

Monday - Heavy day
Bench Press
Squats
Deadlifts
Bent-over rows
Incline DB press
Calf raises

Wednesday - Light day
Overhead press
Squats (50lb less than Monday)
Good mornings
Stiff-leg deadlifts
Straight-arm pullovers
Curls (BB or DB)

Friday - Medium day
Incline bench press
Squats (20lb less than Monday)
Clean high pulls
Shrugs
Chins
Dips

What are your thoughts on this kind of routine?

Looks like a slight modification of Bill Starr's original program. (Well, he made it main-stream anyway...) The idea is good and it works well for beginners to advanced strength athletes. Doing full-body strength work three days a week is tough and the light days are also about technique and auxilary work. I used it a few years ago over a summer. Don't let the light and medium names fool you though. It is brutal work if you do it Bill's way.

Wink

Thanks for the advice guys.

Ebon, in what way does the Musclemag example differ from Bill Starr's program?

And did it work for you?
