help my father

My father is a 40 year old man. HE is having trouble building muscle because of pain. He will work out his arms and 2 days later they are still hurting. Is there anything you can take to quicken recovery time of even do like sleep more or anything. Thank you very very much.

hey chris

I'm 40 myself and my arms and everything else hurt two days after a workout. That's cool for me..I know I had a good workout.
Is your dad taking any sups? I take Glutamine and Creatine and loads of Vit C.(Vit C - 3-4 grams a day)

Hope this helps.

Figure out if it is simple muscle soreness or if it is pain caused from some type of injury. If it is not an injury, then he should start out a bit slower. When everyone gets to the gym for the first time after a long layoff they tend to go all out. Your body isn't ready for this kind of assault. Do only a few sets for each body part. I realize that he may feel that he can do more, but his body will reject the extra work later on. Make sure he gives his body a chance to get used to being worked again. After a few weeks he can SLOWLY increase the work load as his body gets used to the strain of working out. Don't forget that a workout is an incredible amount of stress to put the body through. The supps that Steve suggested are also essential to helping the recovery process. He might wish to add some Vitamin E, also (800mg/day).

Help my father

I,m 49 next month and it seems like the older I get the longer it takes to recuperate. Vitamin C(2 -4 grams daily) and more protein work for me but I realize it will never be like when I was 18,which has some good and some bad points.

49

hey DC
49 is nothing, man. You still got a long life ahead of you. Of course I'd like to be 18 again..on one condition , though. I want to know what I know now...hehehe.
