Lardbeetle,

You didn't post much about yourself. Things like current stats and goals.

Where you are now:
Age
Sex
Height
Weight
Body Fat percentage estimate

What you want to accomplish other than fitness.
Muscle building
Fat loss
Toning (that means muscle building and fat loss)

You've been given some good information so far. With proper information, you'll get even better information.

Sounds like you are limited to a school cafeteria/meal plan with your diet. No worries that can be healthy too with some thought and effort.

Tell us where you are, and where you want to go and you'll get some good advice.

Most of it will be centered around Squatting, Deadlifting, Rowing, Bench pressing, Overhead pressing. Real weight training workouts that work. Bodybuilding, powerlifting, strongman stuff (some of them don't like that handle but hey - they are strong and fit). However, these aren't the only way to fitness, there is also bodyweight work, crossfit, pure cardiovascular and endurance work...

The possiblities are almost endless and there are people on this board who are into whatever you decide is right for you.

Post it up and you'll get the guidance you need.

elite you know what i did. I am also in college last semester i was on the cafeteria plan. Every day i would run or workout really hard so i'd be really hungry then go to the cafeteria and load up. I beileve as long as you put your body in a state of needing to recover you should be able to eat as much as you want after you eat the necessary amount of protein. The only thing you should stay away from are the fried foods obviously just use common sense.

also what i did was steal turkey so i could eat it later lol. Also mine had a special grill where they could make egg whites or egg beaters. It was pretty sweet because i didnt have to do it myself.

i also brought my gallon jug of water and filled it up on their purifier every day saved me quite a bit of money for good water.

is your cafeteria all you can eat sit down go back for seconds? Mine was and sometimes i would sit in there for a long time and do my homework and just keep eating if i was in a bulking phase lol. SIt there for two hours and eat lots of food.

Obviously, the core will be the squat, clean, and bench, but those don't exercise all of my muscles.
Well, sure they do. Throw in deadlifts and pullups and you've got a heck of a full-body workout. Maybe do a clean & jerk instead of just a clean.

Re. "cardio" - make it intense. That's all I have to say about it. The stationary bike is fine, but push yourself, do high intensity intervals. You have to bust your ass if you want results.

I'm looking to do a combination of the powerlifting bodybuilding stuff and pure aerobics on days that I don't do the powerlifting. My goals are to firm up my muscles and recover what I lost in the last 6 months of inactivity, and to become fit cardiovascularly. Nothing real specific, I just want to improve with what I can.

Yep. I've heard that- if you don't sweat, you don't improve.

Here's something to try, if you're feeling brave. Take 2 35 lb dumbells to the track at the local High School - maybe early in the morning so nobody else is around and "stage fright" isn't an issue. Leave the dumbells on opposite ends of the track. Sprint 1/2 lap, and do 20 one-arm snatches (10 per arm). Sprint another 1/2 lap, and do 20 swings (10 per arm). Repeat until you have done 4 laps total, and do it all as fast as possible. If it takes you longer than 20 minutes, you can quit - as long as you can truthfully tell yourself that you're busting ass as hard as you can. That's a brief, intense workout, just what you need to get better conditioned and burn off some of that fat. Your metabolism will be kicking all day long.

Or, even simpler...do 100 burpees as fast as possible. Don't even have to leave the house.
