Hi I am new to this and to weight lifting

Hi all, thought i would introduce myself. I just joined a gym and had the good intention of getting a trainer, well he gave me a great deal of $200.00 unlimited
training for a month. at least that is what he told me come to find out he lied to get me signed up and quit the same day and also gave me a full body workout that landed me in bed for four days. I called to say i would not be in just to find out he quit and shouold not have worked me that hard and heres the kicker,
he lied and signed me up to have 200.00 taken out of my account every two weeks!!!!

so i am having them refund being they will not honor the contrac he wrote and went and bought two books with pictures and i am training myself!!

i lost alot of weight on low carbs and need to tone up, any advise
would be great and do i get protien powder and use it before a workout?

help would be great!!
thanks

Lots of info here,I'd say get some good freeweights and look around this site for a beginning routing, throw in some cardio a few days a week and just try to sweat more in general.

BTW
I typically take my protein immediately post workout or right before I start my last set if I'm drinking Whey, if it's a blend or casein I might take it before.

So, after the calamity with the personal trainer, do you have a routine you use now?

Hi!
well, I bought a book called body rx and it has a four day routine that has 5 different exersizes for four days with different muscle groups and you do this for 6 weeks then move to acycle two etc.. it is over a 6 month peroid with changes every 6 weeks. I am not too sure of cardio. dosen't say anything about it. i use it to get my heart up for about 20 min.
any advise?
and also i heard you do not eat 1 hr. before but what about after?

thanks!

welcome! congrats on the weightloss! i would say keep the cardio going at high intensity... high reps(12-15), low weight for now on your weightlifting, if you just want to tone up. just don't neglect any of your body parts so you get a good look all around. check out the diet and nutrition section for some advice on your diet, which is the most important part for getting a toned body. good luck!

As someone who has dabbled in personal training, don't let that one rotten apple taint the whole barrel - the vast majority of us are dedicated to our clients, work long hours to ensure that your programming etc is up to speed, and prioritise value for money.

I wouldn't bother buying protein poweder for pre or post training - a proper nutritious well balanced diet will ensure that all of your needs are met.

Congrats with the progress to date, and keep the forum up to speed with your progress

A really terrific book to have is called "Getting Stronger" by Bill Pearl, it has lots of illustrations and a ton of free weight exercises, of course you could do variations with like some free motion equipment at your gym if they have it.

I ditto the getting stronger reccomendation and have a copy of the book myself which I had stored for about 12 years.....It's a good begginer guide. Bill Pearl himself has always been someone I have thought highly of....very much a straight forward writer whose going to give you his opinion that are based on his experience...he is also a very good business man but he's not one of those that lost himself in the business aspect..he still keeps himself in amazing shape.
