HIIT on same day as weight training?

Hey all,

Is it ok for me to do HIIT on the same day as my weight training?

I've read over past HIIT threads but couldn't find the answer to this particular question. I see the general concensus is to do cardio on the same days as weights but not sure if this applied to HIIT as well since it is more intense.

Also, I'm doing 3 x 10minute sessions of HIIT per week. 5 mins warm-up prior and 10 mins cool down afterwards. Heart rate reaches upper 180's. Does this sound ok?

Thanks!

BMS

BMS: 180 might be a bit high. What are your stats, and what intervals are you doing on your HIIT?

Most importantly, what are your goals - are you cutting or building right now?

I find that some cardio after a weight session can be good. I don't do it often, however, as I train in martial arts twice a week and that takes care of a lot of my cardio.

Ah right, forgot those.

152 lbs., male, 29 years old, 5'10", 11% bf, regular runner.
Goal right now is to cut in order to get rid of some fat around abs.

Thanks.

HIIT is a great way to get ripped BMS, stick with it. Personally I would not do weight training on the same days as HIIT.

Try a search for Guerilla Cardio now that is challenging!

Thanks all for your replies. Guess I'll have to try it both ways (HIIT on lifting days and HIIT on non-lifting days) and see what works best.

I personally wouldn't do HIIT cardio on the same day as weight training. I always do my cardio on separate days. btw, 180 bpm is fine. That's the upper limit, so don't go too much over that.

BigManSlim,

I would definately reccomend Guerilla Cardio. Besides the immediate results , itīs a rush!

I usually do cardio 4 times a week at this phase. This week I incorporated Guerilla Cardio into my runs, so I do 2 Guerilla Cardio sessions per week, and 2 4-5 mile runs. I always do those in the morning, and workout in the evening. And I do my workouts on my 4 mile days.

Guerilla Cardio is simple. The concept is that you not only burn fat during exercise, but also for the hour after.

THis is a rundown of the exercise

4 minutes warm up (50% pace)

20 seconds sprint-10 seconds break. (100% pace)

Do the above 8 times

4 minutes cool down

The key is to keep that pace up on your sprints and be disciplined with the times. When itīs time to stop you stop and catch your breath, when itīs time to move, you MOOOVE

GC is a kickbutt way to start your day!

Cheers,

Apollo

ApolloFS, the 10-second break should be at what percent pace? Back at 50%?

nope, that'd be a full break - completely rested (and that is the quickest 10 seconds of your LIFE!).

my main concern is that you split the workouts to gain the most from each, and consume pre/post workout meals that maxamize gains and cut losses. how you do this depends on the order you do them in and the rest periods involved between

while trying not to throw-up/pass out. You'll know what I mean when you complete your first interval!
