home gym recommendation

I will be doing my training at my home without a spotter. I plan to use dumbbells for free weight training as they are somewhat safer to use but I still need to buy something for lats etc. What piece of equipment is a decent value and that I will not outgrow. I was thinking of buying a bandflex or maybe a Weider flex CTX 60? What are your thoughts here.

Lets assume you are too weak to do a chin up or pull up. Then what?

Then you do dumbbell rows and also do negative repetitions on the chinup bar. Get box or step, stand on step, start at the top of the rep, and lower yourself down. Repeat. You'd be surprised how hard this is.

I can't do a chinup yet either, but I will... that's my next major goal. (And dammit, I want my back to GROW! My arms grew, my chest grew, my shoulders grew, my back still looks WIMPY! MUST DO CHINUPS!)

What I have...

I like it, cheaper and sturdier than a Bow/soloflex and still does everything I want without having free weights (which would be better, but my house is too small.)

I never bother with chinups. All I do are pulldowns (palms facing me) and bent over rows. I warm up my back with straight arm pulldowns. These isolate your back well. I also do the occasional wide grip pulldown to the FRONT..never behind the back. It works for me....my back's pretty wide.
