how many days a week?

Hey all,

I am starting a serious training routine and I've been looking at different training plans. I used the Bodybuilding.com workout database search, but I'm not sure as to how many days a week I should train? I've done lifting in the past, but would lift for a couple weeks, then slack off for a week or two, so I'm not sure how well the routine worked. My previous training routine was each body part once a week. It just doesn't seem like enough though. I'm 20, 6' 2", 214lbs, about 20% BF. I am going for fat loss and muscle growth/tone. If I do a 3 day split twice a week, it doesn't seem like enough rest. Any tips?

-Matt

maybe try a 4-5 day split with less body parts worked each time. that or you could just do the 3 day split once a week but that means you're in the gym less. its up to you

if your training for positive failure then i suggest only training that muscle once a week. sets in the 4-6 rep range require the most time for rest. I'm not doing this kind of training so i work each muscle twice a week with 3-4 days of rest. I will soon be doing that training and ill prolly go to a mon, wed, fri routine. I'll want the full 6-7 days of rest for that kind of training
