As a powerlifter/ strongman, I would work squat and deadlift once a week, and chest either once a twice a week.

For yourself however, the general rule of thumb is don't work a bodypart less than 72 hours from the previous workout i.e. biceps Monday and Thursday, pectorals Tuesday and Friday etc. Some people say that you can work smaller bodyparts more frequently, perhaps every 48 hours. Each to their own of course, but for "general fitness and strength" IMHO you will make good progress working each bodypart twice a week.

For cardiovascular training however you can work yourself as much as 6 days a week (Depending on your current cardiovascular fitness. Also in reference to say your legs on the treadmill or stationary bike), which is what I do sometimes.

I've never really been a fan of styling my training around bodyparts, but I'll just get the ball rolling with my initial post to your query
