Welcome aboard Neven . There is a great deal of quality information already published on this site that might supply you with answers to your questions. It might be a good idea to paw through the boards and become familiar with the material.

To best offer advice to address your goals, it would be worthwhile if you would offer some information about yourself:

² physical (gender, height, weight & fat level)
² current nutritional profile (breakfast, lunch, dinner & snacks)
² current activity level (workout, aerobics, walks & sports)
² fitness goals (target fat-loss, target muscle-gain)

Curser's advice is straight on. Also, if you are new to going to the gym, you might want to invest in a few weeks with a personal trainer. They can give you help you learn to lift properly, help set up a training program, and give assistance with your diet. They can even measure your progress for you. Many novices have had good results by using a trainer.

That's what I'm doing now for a few weeks and I feel better about it as I can ask questions while I'm learning and I make sure my technique is good.

That's the only problem with here... you can describe the technique or give pics, but really, you can't tell properly if you are lifting with perfect form or not...
