Check out the stickies at the top of the page in this section. They will give you a starting point.

in a word ... sticky!

lots of good reading in the stickies at the top of this page, have a look-see.

If you wanna be big it's easy there's only 4 things you need, weights (check), lots of food (check?), a good place to sleep regularly for 8 or more hours (check?), and most of all patience.

My experience is nothing comes quick in this game but when it does it is worth the effort.

As for exercises basic compound movements are the way to go, especially when sarting out (I'm a relative newb and am seeing good results using this theory) http://www.exrx.net has a good breakdown of exercises and has a good definition of what a compound movement is (Squat, Bench Press, Deadlift etc...).

What kind of routine you do depends on how much time you have to dedicate to lifting and what you want to get out of it (I am guessing from your post you're about size and strength rather than 'slimming down' ... not that there is necessarily that much difference in training toward either of these goals, but that is a topic for another post).

Probably the msot important factor in gainin any real size and/or strength is your diet, what are you eating? how much? how often? 5-6 small meals a day, plenty of protein (c.1g per lb of some say lean mass, some say bodyweight), plenty of carbs if you're doing a lot of cardio.

There is my basic overview, there are a lot more experience people here then me and I will let them fill you in on any details you should know.

Most importantly though welcome to dicsussfitness.com, stick around and enjoy the show

Edit: and I still type too bleedin' slow (P.S. Ironman is one of those more experienced people I was talking about)

read the stickies!

if you had, you'd have half your questions answered by now.

steady on there young fella ... My last post was a question jokingly directed at threenorns ... a good old fashioned thread hijack (with the most peaceful possible intentions).

think you got the wrong end of it.
