I don't do deadlifts. Shame on me?

It seems that there isn't a single routine which doesn't include deadlifts here. But, my gym is a "fitness" gym - and although we do have a wide range of equipment and free weights - I'd be hard pressed to find enough space to do deadlifts. Emphasis on hard pressed because I think I CAN find that space if I push some benches around when there aren't many people there.

So, should I start doing deadlifts like "yesterday" if I'm serious about becoming big? I am expecting a resounding "Yes" - but still curious about what people will say.

Other than squats, there are very few exercises that involve as many muscles as the deadlift, so yes... include them if you're serious about building muscle.

I don't know why.....but in every single gym I've ever been to, I have never seen anyone doing deadlifts. I didn't even know what they were 'till I came here.

Because they hurt, and the uniformed are always telling everyone that they're dangerous.

i rarely see people doing deads. but when i do, they are usually damn strong. i actually think deadlift is the best excersize for overall strength building.

They do 'em in Britains strongest man competition and presumably lots of others too. It seems to be a good exercise for overall strength.

But i agree, i think i've only ever seen one person in my gym doing deadlifts, and i'm occassionally given the 'what are you doing?' look by people as they stand there doing their bicep curls
