i feel lazy if i miss a workout? my story..

well, im new to the gym lets say. i finally got a membership to a gym as i knew once i did buy a membership that i would infact go and not just say to myself "eh, maybe next year". i started out around christmas last year at 26yrs old,5'7, 150lbs & 36" waist. i mainly did cardio (cross trainer) like 5-6 times a week along w/ some weights mixed in the workouts to drop the fat on the gut. once i started working out it was like a drug where im addicted on going to the gym almost every day at 1-2hrs tring to get into better shape. i stopped eating the fastfood (except for maybe a grilled chicken sand. every now and then) and pretty much lived on chicken salads, fruit, water, and healty meals. about march or so, ive really started to notice the weight dropping and muscles showing. im now at 130lbs and a 32" waist. i still eat pretty healthy and work out 3-4 times a week for about a hr and take in a protein shake afterwords. i now do mainly weights/bench/incline/legs basicly a little of everything each workout but not as much cardio. now the question or problem at hand is i go to the gym at 5am (when they open) b4 work M-W-F&S but if i happen to miss a workout because im too tired to get up or forget to set the alarm i cant help but beat my self up over it all day long for being to "lazy" to get up and go. it can sometimes just make me feel pretty damn bad all day like im way over weight. normal? go to a shrink? i also feel absolutely terribly if i give into some "bad" food and it just makes we want to go right to the gym to work it off and not to mention i feel like i just got overweight again just from eating lets say 3-4 pieces of pizza or something and i have to start all over again at the gym. it can really mess w/ the mind i tell ya. im done w/ the weight loss ( im happy weight wize where im at now)but im now tring to build up more muscles, upper mainly and so far its going good. i just have a problem dealing w/ missed workouts/diet slips. what do you think????

It's happened to everyone. Now, what you have to keep in mind is that what you're doing to your body is not a one time thing that you will complete and move on with life, it's not whether you "win" or "lose" this game. You will win by making it a part of your life, for as long as you live. Being lazy is perfectly normal, and working out against your will may inadvertantly create negative associations with working out, which in turn may lead to even less desire.

Now, once you realize that you're in for the long haul, that you're not quitting, you're not going back to your old ways, you're not starting to eat junk again, etc, etc, you should calm down. Make it a part of your life and don't fret if you miss a workout. Sounds like you've made huge progress so far, so you know that you can do it. Now, one missed workout can be beneficial to your mind as well as body.

Good luck.

you also need to remind yourself that your worth isn't whether or not you go to the gym or what the scale says and while its great to look the way you want to, even if you gained all your weight back other people are going to like you just as much as they do now. if you were too lazy to ever go to the gym again then yes that would be bad because that means you're too lazy to take care of your health. but being too tired to go every time you're supposed to just means you have other responcibilities in your life that you also have to take care of. and occasionally eating foods that aren't on your diet is usually a good thing because then you dont feel like you're missing out on all the great things other people are having, you're just keeping them as treats instead of something to chow down on everyday. so while its good to feel a little guilty when you slip up because it makes you say "ok, i'll try harder tomorrow!" there's definitely no reason to let it ruin your day. :

You don't need to go to a shrink. Why don't you allow yourself one cheat day a week? I think that would help out a lot. Congrats on your weight loss so far!! : There's really no need to be down. You haven't gained any weight. Think positive. And keep us updated.
