i injured my knee!!!!

i have seemed to have injured my knee, it starts to hurt after a couple minutes of walking, or going up or down stairs, its been hurting like this for about 3 days. about a week ago, i had a pretty intense work out, i did some HIIT sprints around a track in the morning, then in the afternoon i went to the gym and my normal weight routine and then went on the eliptical trainer for 30mins.

the first couple days after that i was stiff and sore, but it was nothing out of the normal..after a couple days of recovery i was still pretty stiff then the other day my knee started to hurt.

today i went to the gym and did my weight routine and then tried to go on the elliptical trainer, but my knee hurt way too much, i was off in under 2 mintues..

does anyone have any recomondations to what i can do to get my knee back in shape? should i go see a doctor?

thanks

That sounds like what I would do. You might be inducing more harm.

It sounds like you have a knee tracking problem that could be resulted from lack of ankle mobility or poor hip movement. Go see a sports medicine professional to receive some appropriate exercsies.

It could be a couple of reasons:
How old are your shoes that your're wearing? If you're going to run, your shoes must be new or newer. Yes, it will make a difference on your body. Especially, running outside, you need all the cushioning you can get. Make sure you visit your local running store and they will fit you properly. There are different types of gates and your arches may not be hitting the correct spot in your shoes.

Another, it sounds as if you have "runners knee". You may want to google that and see if you have the symptoms. All you can do is RICE your knee. Running isn't made for everyone. Especially, if you are on the heavier side, it takes a toll on your body. I'm not saying you are heavy, just think about all the pounding your are putting on your body.

I, myself, was an avid runner (35-45 miles a week) for many years, up untill this past April. My knees can no longer take the pounding. I am a small frame women, so that will show you how hard it is on your joints (I have had a knee problems all my life). Grant it, I love the way it makes me feel, I still go for a run every now and then, but not everyday like I used to.

Finally, it could be your IT band. When you run or use the elliptical does it hurt all the up by your hip? The IT band runs from your knee to your hip. You need to stretch both before & after working out. Also, have you tried to ride the bike?

well i dont think it is my it band, because it is just me knee that hurts..

it could be from my shoes though, they are good running shoes but they are starting to get warn out..

I am a pretty big guy, and i know running can be hard on the knees, but i played sports all my life and never really had a problem and im only 22 so i hope this doesnt mean i need to stop running!!

thanks for all the advice
