I need lower back excercises

I have a really bad lower back. Pilates irritates it more. I want to do Pilates but because of my lower back I can not continue doing them. I want to strengthen my lower back.
Does anyone have any excercises for helping strengthen this area?

I had a really weak back and was having no end of problems. I strated doing very light SLDLs with 10Kg dumbells and just added 2.5 Kg each week until I moved onto barbell and just very gradually got heavier and heavier, my back is now stronger than it's ever been. I SLDL upto 110Kg now which isn't much compared to some other people but for me it's good progress.

But maybe you should see a doctor before you try this

Have you seen a doctor for your back?

No I have not seen my doctor yet because it does not bother me all the time. Just when I'm doing pilates, first thing in the morning, in the evening and if I'm sitting in certain chairs for extended periods of time. It normally does not bother me.

Eh, I'd still advise seeing a doctor in lieu of soliciting advice from people over the internet on your back problems. There are many ways to strengthen your lower back, but none I would suggest to someone with back problems without knowing more about the problems. Remember, anything that will strengthen has caused stress, which can also injure further.

yep. if your back problems are so bad that you can't even do pilates, then i doubt you can do any of the suggested back exercises safely...

ps. don't forget to stretch!
