I need to lose weight!

I am new to this board and am pleased to have found it. I am a 26 yr. old female. I really need to lose 35 pounds. I am up to 170 now and it has really been a struggle to try to get down to where I should be, oh yeah, I am 5'8" by the way. I have tried all the fad diets and just end up gaining back even more. Within the last week I have had 2 different people tell me "wow, you have gained weight". Talk about making someone feel good. Anyway, I want to finally lose this weight with proper excercise and nutrition and lose it for good. I was planning on starting by walking 2 miles everyday and cutting my calories. I'm not sure how many calories I eat a day now, but I know it isn't pretty, especially since I eat fast food alot. I would like to know how many would be proper and if I should start with weights now or later after I drop a few pounds. Any comments and help would be appreciated. Thanks!

First of all, I'd recommend counting your calories. Get an idea of what you are eating, how much, and be able to break it down into proteins carbohydrates and fats (in grams).

Cardio is an excellent idea, plan a weely schedule and stick to it if you are serious. Working out is also an excellent Idea. Since you are just starting out, I'd recommend slowly working into a workout routine, don't go all out and burn yourself out in the first few weeks...

Hello, and it's great that you are planning on getting yourself healthy again. It sounds like you have the right idea. It's best to start slowly. 2 miles is great to start with. I would go ahead and build some muscle too. The more muscle you build the better metobolism you will have. VAriety is a big key to working out. You won't excersise if it's to boring. For variety got to http://www.netfit.co.uk/menu.htm along with this for how to do excersises and common routine. I actually chat online in the yahoo chat (loosing weight) Great support. The chat room helps for support a lot more interactive. Look at the forums search for recepies, nutrtion, excersise techniques, suppliments and pretty much what ever you want. The journals gie you a lot of information (especially of what to expect). I hope we can be of help....
