Is basketball good cardio??

I was wondering whether playing basketball was a good source of cardio? I play just about 3-4 times a week.. At a high intensity for about 2 hours each day.. I use to run the treadmill for about 30-40 minutes, but when I play basketball I sweat a lot more, my shirt is totally drenched when compared to running I just get somewhat damp.. AHAHA!! But, yeah.. Thanks in advance.

I would think you are getting excellent cardio by playing basketball like you describe. Best thing is - you enjoy it

Hell yeah! That is unless you're like many people who "play" but don't hustle.

hustle is where its at, makes up for any lack of skill and definitely lets you feel the burn!

the hustle can also make you a few dollars on the court if you've got a good playin partner

What kind of question is this?! Of course playing basketball is great cardio, why wouldn't it be?! Your heartrate gets going, you sweat, your body gets pumping...

I would have thought this would be one of those "no brainers".

Basketball is definetly awesome cardio. In a way, it's like HIIT cardio. You run fast down the court, and then move around guarding or trying to break free from another player which makes you catch your breath, and then you run down the other side of the court again, and so on.

I play basketball afterwork. My other sources of cardio are occasional running, riding the stationary bike and the elliptical. Basketball is by far the best cardio workout i receive. Unlike cardio machines your not exercising at a controlled pace. If your oppenant is faster than you, you push that much harder. Your running in all directions at a stop and go. You say you play for two hours, try running on a treadmill for two hours. Not very exciting. Basketball is by far the best source of cardio I receive along with Mountain biking.

I play basketball too(usually 2/week).It's really good cardio and it's fun but it's hard on the knees.
