lots of pull ups

what is the best way of going about doing a lot of pull ups? would it be better to do lower weight pull downs reps near 20 adding weight as often as possible or doing as many pull ups as possible and then having a spotter help with a few until i get to a desired number?

Doing pullups and getting help from a spotter is the best way, beef. This way you not only develop the strength but also work the neural pathways and make your body more effecient at the exercise. BTW -- how long before you go into the Air Force?

i'd say go to max on pull ups, then immediately do lat pull downs at a weight that allows 5-8 more reps........or get a step that puts you at the top of your chin range, doing as many as you can conventionally, then stepping up and doing a few negatives to exhaustion.......

thanks for the input. i leave in 2 weeks. ive been doing the pullups and such for about 2 weeks now. im not sure how many i can do. ive stayed pretty much on the lat pull down machine thus far. im going to change that now. ill try and keep yall (yep yall, im a hick) informed on my air force stuff on the general chit chat. yall might wann hear about it every now and then. i figure the help i have got from a lot of yall will help me make it through.
