first off, the one step you've NOT taken is to give it time and i think we've established quite handily that you're not eating enough. added to that, you're allowing yourself to get all stressed out over everything - this increases cortisol levels in your system, cortisol inhibits muscle growth.
you say you don't want to be a bodybuilder "or anything like that" - bosh. of course you do! maybe you don't want to be a competition or professional bodybuilder, but you DO want a better body. to get a better body, you build one - ergo, you ARE a bodybuilder.
if you honestly don't like running, then for the love of the gods, man, don't do it! something done because you "have" to is a chore and you will NOT be putting your dedication and focus into it. surely there's something else you like - hiking through the woods, swimming, surfing, sailing, kayaking, dancing, rock-climbing, rollerblading, ice-skating, hockey, volleyball, basketball? full-contact parcheesi, maybe?
this whole "not eating out" and avoiding food situations with friends and family is BAD! BAD, BAD, BAD - it's a terrible sign. losing interest in hobbies is another VERY bad sign - you are in a state of depression, buddy, speaking as someone who has been living with chronic (clinical) depression since the age of 7. other signs are: losing interest in food, losing senses of taste and smell, disordered or disrupted sleep, irritability, no sense of humour.
sound like anyone we know?

Almost to a T. I don't remeber the last time I slept good. I use to have a hell of a sence of humor, now not much seems funny.

Well I think something is happening(more than likely not) but I wieghed myself this morning, still at 160, but my jeans are fittin a little looser. My guess is they just stretched.
Also, a co-worker and I were talking today. He lifted when he was in highschool and was talking about how great free wieghts were. I know they are better, but I don't have the money to go join the local rec center and I am able to use the gym at the collage for free. They only have machines. Am I just wastin my time with the machine? If I am , I might as well stop.
