New Routine?

Starting on monday, I`m planning on changing my routine. I was doing upper body on monday and thursday, and legs on teusday and friday with 20 min cardio each day.I guess I want to be able to concentrate more on specific muscle groups each day. What I plan to do is, all push muscle groups on monday and thursday, all pulling muscle groups on teusday and friday, and legs on wednesday and saturday. Is this a good idea? and how much or how often should I do my cardio with this routine? I normaly do my cardio after my weight training in the evening.Would it be a good idea to do my cardio in the mornings, separately and not after my weight training? Thanks for the input

It sounds like it should be a pretty good split. The one thing to watch is how many sets you do for each muscle group as you don't want to over train. Cardio in the morning right after I wake up is my favorite time to do it. You might want to give that a try.

Question

What do I look for as an indication that I`m overtraining? Today was the first day of the new routine. It`s been about 4 hrs since my workout. My muscles still feel fatigued,But not sore at all. If I watch my diet and get enough protien, will that help to offset any inadvertant overtraing? I really don`t want to end my workout when I still feel like I could do more.

Some indicators of overtraining would be chronic fatigue, inability to make gains, restlessness while trying to sleep. Your enthusiasim in the gym is great, but rather than do more work, get the most out of the work you are doing. Make sure that the weight is heavy enough so that your last rep is just that -- your muscle has worked so hard that it cannot preform another rep.
