saying g'day

Hi all. First time here. Fell across this site surfing the web looking for like minded people. You guys sound very down to earth and take all comers not just the big boys/girls, which suits me.
I'm 47yrs old and have been working seriously for the past 2 yrs.
Have always been an athlete, running half marathons etc. Found that as I got older work and training did not gel. 12 mths of glandular fever and 6mths of post viral fatigue. saw me seek the the gym to completely change my training strategy. At my weakest I weighed 63 kgs now I'm up to 75kgs and rising slowly. Things are slightly different for oldies I find. Is there any thing different I should be doing at my age? Looking forward to any help/advice. cheers

Well, welcome.

Geez, I was sick all last week and I feel sorry for myself. 18 months is a marathon. Glad things are turning around.

Hard work, and watching your diet is all there is basically. There is nothing special to change once you get older.

Stick around and read up.

Thanks for the welcome mate.

As I get older my work loads are seriously cut down as I fatigue quicker than those younger around me. My body shape is constantly changing which is really exciting and motivating. Muscles where I never knew I had them, being noticed by friends and family. I want to work harder but find I've run out of juice rather quickly into my workout. Want to make gains but, at training - how hard is too hard? Recommended sets / reps etc
I'm only 5'7'' 165lb. Don't know my max. Noone to assist. The youngies have their heads up their a...e! Age discrimination!?

Strength training, bodybuilding, weight training, whatever, it has certainly paid off health wise - not even a cold! With your assistance I will persevere and do my best to improve cheers

mesomorph,

47 is old? No way! ... My father is 62 and he could kick the crap out of me. I plan to be very active well into my 70's.

Howdy mesomorph. Welcome to the gym. We don't age discriminate here (at least I hope not). I've got you beat by a couple of years (heh, I'll aways be ahead of you in that department ), but expect to be still cookin' when I'm 100+ (did you hear that, BigManSlim? ... Don't settle for the 70s).

As far as your energy level during workout sessions goes, make sure that your nutritional intake is adequate (both in terms of volume and macronutrient balance).

Stick around.

Appreciate the welcome guys. Feeling really positive about this BB. Everyone is out to help each other. I hope I can add a few thoughts from this hemisphere to get the juices going.

Other than that I'll probably be a real pest asking heaps of questions - especially from you curser, being older than me. If others here have been there done that, I certainly don't want to reinvent the wheel with my program. cheers
