simple(ish) question, and intro from a newb

Hello, nice site, great info!

I was a strapping lad back in high school, but now Im a big sexy muscle man covered in about 40-50lbs of fat...

Im 6' and right now 250lbs(265 when I started working out on 2/4). I carry 95% of my fat in my torso, my thighs look decent and my calves look AMAZING: . But my torso... thats another story. I have a big ol gut and decent size boobies.

Im a lazy guy and if I dont work out with a buddy its REALLY boring to me. But I have been working out 28 of the last 34 days. So being a lazy guy with nobody to work out with I only work on my cest and stomach...

I have a crossbow(a wannabe bowflex) and I do 20 reps benchpress, 50 situps(with the same weight), and then 15 more reps on the bench. I know its not much but its better than nothing right... I have bumped up the weight by 10lbs twice now and tomorrow I will again.

and now the question(about time... I know)

Am I better off doing this every day or every other day?

Im not going to change my "workout" til I see more results and get more motivated, so trying to get me to do so is pretty much pointless right now(I said I was lazy...)

So far I have lost about 2-3 inches off of my waist and 15lbs. Ive got a large frame and am capable of having a decent amount of muscle on me so my goal is 215-220lbs and looking like I could crush you but Im not on roids

If you were able to read through all of this, Thanks!

Welcome and congrats on taking the steps necessary to change your life. Small steps add up over the long haul. You are better off starting the way you have in order to build good habits.

I would bench every other day (3 days per week). Even though you aren't doing a full workout you still need to recover and a days rest is the right thing to do. I would also drop the reps down to the 8 - 10 range by adding some more resistance. It will help build some muscle which I think is your whole point.

In a few more weeks think of adding another exercise to your regime. Maybe 2 or 3 sets of pulldowns. This will start to add balance to your workouts as well as your physique. You might want to make it a goal to get 5 or 6 compound exercises in each workout eventually.

Here is a link to some tips on eating well. You will need to incorporate some better eating habits to lose the gut and man boobs.

Why don't you read AARS' story (scroll down to post 20 or the bottom of the page and it goes for a few posts). It may help you in the diet areana.

thanks,
I guess I forgot to mention my diet...

I got fat by not playing sports in high school, and eating out all the time. I have recently bought a house and have a baby on the way, which leaves me with no money to eat out. This is fine by me because most of my food now is skinless chicken breasts, oatmeal(cream of wheat), and fruits and veggies.

So Im sure my change in diet has helped as well.. I gave up "large" sizing my fast food menues for 3 weeks and lost 7 pounds last year. And now I eat a fried meal maybe twice a year. Everything is grilled or baked now.

as far as my abs go, I am ok with doing them everyday? If so I might change my "workout" to work on something else(probably arms) on my off chest days..

again thanks for the replies, its appreciated!

*edit*
one more question, I had thought about increasing the weight and lowering the reps to gain more muscle but I dont want my new chest muscle to push out my boobies even more and make them look bigger... If this wont be the case then Ill change it TODAY

"Pushing out" isn't bad...sagging is. Work the chest.

while I understand what you are saying... "pushing out" fat to make my boobies look bigger is bad to me. I have already lost a decent amount of fat on my chest so Im guessing that even if it does push out the fat that I have I really wont look bigger than I do now.

But Ill switch up the weight today. just for you guys:

Ill drop the reps to 10 and see what weight Im at. It will be a tad bit of a pain because then I wont be able to do 50 situps without changing the weight, or would it be just as benificial to do as many situps as I can with the new weight?

Thanks again!

OK...
Well I added 40lbs to my "workout" and was able to do 10 reps on the bench, 25 situps(with the new weight), 10 more reps on bench, 25 situps, and 10 more on the bench...

your chest won't look fatter, it will look better because the extra muscle will distribute the fat across a bigger area. and you are going to lose the fat anyways, right?

Ya Im going to lose the fat, I just dont want anyone to think that I am getting fatter when i am trying to lose weight...

But what sucks for me is that when I bumped up the weight on my crossbow by 40lbs it is now at 210lbs out of 240... and If I need to do 5reps then I will have to have the crossbow maxed out and I wont be able to up the weight anymore...
But the good news is that when I started working out(02-04-06) I could only do the max weight once, so I guess that my 20 reps were doing some work...

again, thanks for all the help so far!

I really don't mean to be a pest, but you're totally wrong. Muscle is made much slower than fat is lost, and 1 pound of muscle is a lot smaller than 1 pound of fat. So even if you do build muscle while losing fat, you won't look fatter.

When bodybuilding, the only thing that matters is the end result. When my parents complain about me getting fat when I bulk, they are right, but it doesn't mean that what I'm doing is wrong. 3/4 of the weight I add is muscle, and in my eyes, I look better even if my waist does grow an inch or two because my chest has grown 5 inches and I can bench, deadlift and squat 100+ lbs more than before.

your not being a pest, its just that most of the way I was thinking I recently found out was wrong Im working towards the right track now though. I worked my chest, abs, arms and traps today. So Ill get there.

I was talking with my dad today about his workouts as well. He is 53 and has been working out pretty much every day for the last few years. He is starting to look pretty good, but isnt where he wants to be yet and he some times asks me for advice. Ive been telling him to eat more for quite some time and now i had links to show him and what not... I just worry now that he will start eating better and working out more efficiantly. That would then force me to kick it into high gear and I dont really want to go hardcore
