Some general questions

Ok, so I have been working out now for about five months. My ultimate goal is to apply to the police department, so that is my motivation, and obviously I need to be in great shape...however, I am in school right now with only one semester left. I don't have as much time to hit the gym anymore like I did in the recent past, so I have some questions.

I have free weights at home that I have been using lately as an alternative to going to the gym. I have just been doing upper body workouts with these; arms, shoulders, chest, and back. Nothing lower body. So should I just continue with this as an alternative to going to the gym and using the resistance machines for upper body that they have there?

Also, I would like to work out my lower body of course, but I feel the gym and the resistance machines would be the best bet for that. I normally did lower body twice a week, and would like to continue that.

So, would you all advise going to the gym just twice a week or so to do lower body workouts on the machine, and just stick to free weights at home, or should I sacrifice some time and go five days a week to use their machines for the upper body.

Sorry if this is confusing, ask any questions you need to; thanks.

to get a overall great workout i would stick to compound exercises, keep isolation to a minimum cause you work all ur stablizer muscles. if you have the right weight and barbell you can do most of ur lower body workout at home, squat(with spotter if using heavy weight and no safty bar). if you have the money buy the equipment you need. IMO i dont think you would be getting the "full" price you are paying at the gym to just workout ur lower body
