Is it a hormone or just that fact that a good heavy squat is a compound movement that draws on the strength and coordination of several muscle groups?

I've never heard of any hormone, but it is an awesome compound movement when done correctly.

No reason to be sad, regardless. It's still an awesome, essential exercise to do. No lifting routine is truly complete without it.
