If you want to get big. Eat a balance of protien, carbohydrate, and natural healthy fats. Chicken, fish, lean beef, lean pork, rice, beans, potatoes, green vegetables. Find things you like and can stick with. Start by adding one meal a day to what you already eat, then another, then another until you start to grow. Add a protien shakes before and after each workout. Then if you need more add more. If you find you are taking in more than you need to grow muscle and are storing fat - cut it back a little.

If you want to reach your maximum potential you should stop looking at food primarily in terms of taste. Instead, look at what it will do to your body, then consider the taste.

You should look into the cost of your local gyms, many are not as expensive as you may think. Anyways, 6'0, 170 is thin, but definetly not skinny, especially if you are only 16. Good luck man

Youngn16, 6' tall 170lb medically is considered just right. For a bodybuilder it may be considered skinny. However, depending on your activity level, athletic ability, body fat level - it may just be considered fit. Really depends on your goals.
And the thing about looking at food for what it does for your body instead of if you like it - that's really hard to do but it can be done. Even I do it and I have the least willpower of anyone I know.

Hey man, you are young - enjoy your life. But eat as healthy as you can manage. Remember you get out of this what you put into it...and you get out of your body what you put into it. Actually, you can eat fast food and still support good bodybuilding growth. For example at McDonald's - get the grilled chicken breast on whole wheat with extra lettuce and tomato. Skip the mayo - use mustard if you must have something on it. Or if you've got to have the mayo, just don't eat too much. Can't really reccomend the fries though.
At other places where they actually cook the food - and you still want fried potatoes have them take a baked potato, cut it into little pieces and brown them on the griddle - then you've got home fries made without all the fat.

Well, lots of fat and carbohydrates in the same meal aren't really a good idea. Neither is eating refined white flour products. Fried foods = trans fats. All of these things contribute to heart disease, insulin resistance, a variety of health problems. Weight gain or loss aren't the only indicators of good or bad foods. Generally with fast foods there aren't many vegetable choices either.
But, you can make the choices healthier by choosing a salad, whole wheat products, and lower fat items. Sometimes one needs higher fat foods and with those, too many carbohydrates should be avoided - except for the high fiber green veggies which are packed with vitamins.
