suggestion for lats

Hi guys and thanx for the tips on chest variation excersises.

I just started a new lat routine, which is done with the back.
I do one lat excersise and one back excersise ect.
This tends to give the lats more resting time to advoid overtrain.

I start off with behind the neck presses (heavy) and after two less stressful (for the shoulders) back excersise like good mornings and shrugs i then do lat raises (3 sets) with my chest against an 80 degree bench to get a more concentrated movement. I use light dumbells which barely makes an impact on the lats, purely to get the blood flow happening.

I then have the bench at 45 degrees and go 2 kgs heavier 3 (sets). This really pumps the lats from the back and the sides like crazy and also finishes off the back workout (outer).

Ive only just started this after trying various lat techniques, but it seems to really stimulate blood flow, which is the key for something like lats. Ill keep you informed of developments in comparison to past methods.

Ps. For a good tri movement, try lat raises really light, only lift above shoulder hight. It really squeazes the lower tri even more than shrugs.

Does "lats" mean "deltoids" in Australia? I might be misreading this, or it might be one of those hemisphere things, like water going down the drain backwards.

hey im from Oz and i can reassure you that 'lats' is refererred to as the back. eg..Lat pulldown machine, works the back.....
I was confused by the post to, but just saying that i believe that the name of muscle groups is universal in nature, Latissimus Dorsi is known as the back from Australia, to England to Kenya, etc!!!

Well, considering this little gem that ends KingFnKong's post I think it's best if we wait to see if he can clarify things. Shrugs for tri's... interesting... This really must be a joke...

He seems to have got the two muscle groups mixed up, oh and I wouldn't do behind the neck presses, they're a surefire way to destroy your rotator cuffs.

Heres some Lat excercises:

Pull-Ups/Chin-Ups(vary grip to work upper & lower lat muscles)
Seated Cable Rows
Lat Pulls (to chest)

Hope this helps

The lats you're thinking of are the ones located on the side of the back, the outter delts are also referred to as lats. From the word 'lateral' meaning side.

That has to be regional Australian. Please refer to them as delts in the future. Then you might get constructive replies instead of puzzled looks. And what was the deal with that comment about shrugs?

ha! Lats are back muscles....nothing else. End of story. I think most will agree on this.

Maybe KfK is a new subspecie.....(evolution?)

i think he is referring to the lateral deltoid
also known as the side deltoid, which im sure you are all aware of
anterior, lateral and posterior deltoid
front, side and rear of the shoulder
keeping this in mind his post does sort of make sense

oh and i also agree that behind the neck presses are not good for the rotator cuff

hey bro i hate to do this to you..i have read the bodybuilding magazines and books. i have several nationally and internatially recognized personal training certs and have studied and researched the kenesiology of the human body. now that i have wowed you with my proess i have never heard, read, or seen anyone refer to the posterior deltoid as a latissimus dorsi or "lat". i think on this particular subject it might be best if you just bow out quietly and admitt that just maybe you misunderstood

Well read a bit harder then, and hold the magazines with both hands instead of one.

sac1973, im sure you know your stuff man, but just letting you know he was talking about the LATERAL deltoid or the SIDE deltoid
not the posterior(rear) deltoid

just so there is no confusion i agree that the side delts are never referred to as lats.
