To anyone with pain in their forearms when curling:
Lately Ive been reading quite a few threads by people who are experiencing pain in their forearm/s when curling. All the people seem to have the same pain, which feels like its coming from the bone on the outside of the forearm. The pain is quite hard to describe. Basically, I had the same thing, and thought Id just create a thread so that anyone with this pain can ask questions about it here or whatever as it seems to be quite a common problem. When I had this problem, it didnt hurt so much DURING the curling, but it hurt a LOT when I would let go of the DB or BB. Id suddenly get a shooting pain which felt like it was coming from the outer bone of the forearm. I do not have this problem anymore, as I basically layed off any bicep exercise which aggrivated it a lot. I used just the curling machine for a few weeks which took a lot of strain off that part of the forearm as you dont need to balance anything. Also, something that helped LOADS was using DeepHeat on it. I applied it twice a day for a few days and it helped dramatically. Hope this helps anyone with the same problem.

yep, i get that from time to time, know exactly what you're talking about. for me, i found stopping all bb curls for a few months cured it up. now i stay mostly w/ db, w/ only 1-2sets at most ont he bb

Yeh, barbell curls really seem to aggrivate it....infact......it sounds very weird.....but the EZ Bar made it MUCH worse for me ....the probl seems to have gone now for me...I just stick to DBs...

yes, I have similar problem
I dont know about you guys, but when I stand with my hands down by my sides I cant make my palms face front!!-I just cant rotate them enough, so when curling Im basicly forcing this rotation of my forarms. so I thought this was the cause of the pain!!
You dont have this rotation problem do you??????
So I just do hammer with dumbbells for my biceps now...
 uuuhhhhhhh I wanna curl

I've actually had this pain when doing dips, where once I was done and let go of the grips my forearm would hurt. I just keep my forearms tense when I'm done with a set now and then take about 3 seconds to release my hold and relax my grip from the bars instead of just letting go when I'm done.

Yes, this is a VERY common problem, and I have looked all over the place and have yet to see an explanation of it.
Several of my lifting partners and I have this same problem. My solution was just to give up BB curls. No worries. I just stick with hammer curls now, and everynow and then, I will make an effort to build a good pump and focus on my biceps when I am doing back excercise that involve them like underhand narrowgrip chinups.

found this thread using the "search" feature (go figure) and thought it could use a bump.
My specific question is treatment, one post mentions heat, does this help in your experience? At this point I think I'm going to have to take a week off but I would feel better if at least I could treat the problem instead of simply ignoring it.

i think its just taht barbells curls force your wrists to turn in a direction that isn't comfortable and then the weight puts stress on the bones. your palms naturally face in so if you do hammer curls or regular curls with your hand slightly inward, with dumbells, it should help the pain a bit i'd think.

I dont personally have this problem, but one my friends did for a lil while, and the wierdest thing was, he could do curls all he wanted, but then he got into doing forarm(or wrist) curls, and when he started doing that, he got a striking pain in the bone of his forearm when doing reg. dumbell curls, so I thought that was wierd, that the forearm curls would hurt his other excercises....

I hate that pain lol, I usually don't feel it until after I try to let go of the weight and my hands have trouble loosening their grip...really weird but I don't let it bother me.

I try to work through it also, the first set of anything is always the worst, but it seems to lessen (or I block it out) as I go on.
Thing is the next day it still hurts like heck, even when doing normal daily tasks. This is what I have to get in check.
As an aside, I used to have this on my right side also, and it managed to dissappear. The best thing is that now I feel super on that side but my left feels like it's really lagging. I know if I can kick this I can also kick through a few plateaus.

i also have tihs problem, and i thought it was just me..
it seems that it started hurting when i added more weight to my normal BB curl routine. for me, it hurts like hell when im doing the actual exercise and is relieved when i let go. i dont have good DB's so i gotta use a BB and it hurts like a sonbitch.
im pretty sure its just the way that ur wrists turn when holding the BB.
why do they even make curling BB's if it puts your wrist in an uncomfortable position?? and are there any good curling BB's that wont do this?

I've got the exact same problem. I even went to the doctor for it but of course that wasn't much help. He gave me some anti-anflamitories for it but I haven't taken any yet. I'm sure just alot of rest would solve it but there would go alot of my gains with it.

Yeah, i get this pain also! Esp aggrivated when using BB.
I mentioned it to someone at the gym and they couldnt understand what i was talking about.
Even though it's a pain for all of us, im glad that im not the only one with this unique symptom.
I've noticed that it's on my weaker (left) arm.
Could the pain be related to "tennis elbow"? Esp as i play alot of tennis.
