Twig arms, but fat/muscular legs?
Hi
I'm a 20 year old female but for as long as I can remember, I've had twig-like arms and really fat (or muscular? I can't tell) legs. I'm not sure if this has to do with my short height (5'1) but my lower body is completely disproportionate with my upper body and it looks awkward whenever I wear shorts/dresses because of this. Is there any way I can make my legs more, well, skinny? Same with my upper body - how would I go about making my arms less twig-like? I really want to start working out, but I have no idea what to do.
Thank you!

this may sound mean, but i promise it's not meant to be...
if you dont know what your legs are, it's probly fat. if you're not on a workout program that does a lot of leg exercises, the probability of having muscular legs from every day life is VERY low. the good thing though, if you cant tell, then it probly still looks good (not fat and lumpy looking).
ok, now that we're past the part that can sound mean...
there's no exercise to make any part of your body smaller. the only way to make your legs smaller is to lower overall bodyfat. genetics plays a HUGE role in where we store our fat. for some people it distributes evenly, for some, not so much.
conversely, if your arms look too skinny, then you will want to gain some muscle. dont think that putting on a little bit of muscle will make you look all muscly like a man overnight. men naturally have WAY more testosterone than you and have enough problems putting on muscle. you're not gonna turn into "helga the bodybuilder" overnight, i promise.
overall, your best bet is to get into a strength program that incorporates all muscle groups evenly, and get on a healthy diet consisting of lots of meats, veggies, nuts, fruits, etc. throwing in cardio and sprints will help even more.
i'm sure if you look around the site you will find something that will work for you.
the biggest bit of advice i can give you...DONT ASK THAT DOUCHEBAG DOING NOTHING BUT BENCH AND CURLS HOW TO WORK OUT, HE'S AN IDIOT. bench, squat, deadlift, overhead press, pull ups(or downs) and rows should be the focus of your workouts. those are very compound lifts that will give the most bang for your buck. if you dont know how to properly do them, look on youtube. there are instructional vidoes on how to do EVERYTHING. you could also ask a gym employee. they're usually happy to help.
good luck. there are a lot of smart folks here, and i'm sure they'll chime in to help as well.

LMAO (part in red love it) Soooo True. I also have larger thighs. They look MUCH better when I'm in shape and running/lifting weights. Even distance running thought they've never been "skinny" not since before puberty haha. I agree with the above post Bench, squat deadlift, rows, pushups, pullups

i try to make it a point to tell people who to actually listen to. people are WAY more comfortable doing what someone tells them to do if it's easier than what the other guy is telling them to do, even if they're a know-nothing moron.
people typically dont want to do the right thing. people wanna do what's easier and blame genetics or lack of money for sups or lack of time to prepare good quality meals.
i'm not saying the poster will do these things. i'm just pointing out the common mistakes people make, especially when it comes down to who to listen to.

you have a very natural build, our legs our supposed to be the strongest muscle on our body. The way i like to say it is, Build the Base of the tree before the branches. I have read you can build an inch on your arms for every 10lbs of mass you have. Basically, the stronger your legs get the better chance you have of building your arms up.
