im limited to dumbell work mainly and have started lifting in a way where i hold the dumbells up at shoulder level and do a squat. upon reaching the top of my squat i press the dumbells in the air in one fluid motion. or at least as fluid as i can after a couple sets. just curious as to what this was called. aside from weighted lunges and squats, are there any other good lower body exercises i can do with only a flat bench and dumbells?

Not sure of the name of the exercise you are describing. Sounds almost like a
"jerk" but if you are going really low on the squat portion then it isn't a true, technical jerk.
For other exercises try one legged squats holding a dumbell for extra resistance. Also add some one legged toe raises to turn your calves into cows.
