Thumbs up

nice

This looks cool...really gonna try it!

The daily values you stated, are they for the whole recipe, or is it per bar? My guess is that it is for the whole recipe.....(?)

Wish it was per bar -- 146 gm of protein! Wouldn't that be an easy way to get your quota? Unfortunately, it is for the whole recipe. You will have to do your own math for each bar.

I make these all the time for my Pro + Fat meals, got it from JB's site:

`````````````````````````````
Peanut Butter Protein Bars
Some people have told me that these bars stick to their teeth, which might result from adding too much water. I try to use as little water as possible, making it more of a moldable matrix instead of a slimy mess. Just be sure to drink a lot of water with the bars so you can digest the protein.
Makes 4 bars
Ingredients:
4 scoops whey protein powder
8 Tbs flax meal (ground flax seeds)
5 tablespoons natural peanut butter
Instructions:
Mix these together in a bowl, adding ¼ cup water (or less if you can manage) and splenda to taste. At first, it will seem like it’s not enough water, but keep stirring, and it will eventually become a moldable blob of dough that looks like what you would imagine it will on the way out of your body.
Divide the mixture in half, and put it into separate pieces of plastic wrap, shaping into a bar within the wrap. It’s easier to shape them by laying plastic wrap in one side of a small casserole dish, pressing the dough into the natural shape of the dish.
Put the bars into the fridge, or store them in the freezer. You can eat them chilled, or even frozen, or you can eat it right out of the bowl with a spoon if you’re feeling impatient.
Macronutrient Profile
(For each bar using Optimum Nutrition Whey and Smuckers Natural PB):
K/cal: 325
Fat: 19g
Carbs: 14g (8.5g Net)
Fiber - 5.5g
Protein: 30g
Jay i must agree i tried this yesterday, a variation of it but yea it ruled. I made 4 bars that am going to use maybe in place of a whey shake here or there. When do you use them?
Perhaps I'm missing something on the calorie and ratios. If I use the provided values for the whole recipe,
TOTAL FAT: 125g 92%
TOTAL CARBOHYDRATE: 300g 100%
PROTEIN: 146g 192%
I calculate total cals as (125*9) + (300 + 146) * 4 = 2909 for the whole recipe. Ratios are 41.3% Carbs, 20.0% Protein, and 38.7% Fat.
Dividing into 10 equal-sized portions:
291 cals from 30g carbs, 14.6g protein, and 12.5g fat per portion.
It's a great bar recipe, but I think it has a lot more cals/fat than reported in the original recipe.
I made my own calculations using reduced fat peanut butter, bulk rolled oats, and BJ's brand clover honey bought at BJ's wholesale club. Values are as follows. The bottom line has all these added up and divided by 10.
{Ingredient} {calories} {total fat grams} {total carb grams} {total protein grams}
1 cup rolled oats (bulk) 300 6 56.0 10.0
6 tbsp JIF Reduced Fat peanut butter 570 36 45.0 24.0
8 tbsp BJ's clover honey 480 0 136.0 0.0
1 1/4 cup ON Chocolate whey 413 6 12.0 86.0
One bar (when div. into 10) 176 4.8 24.9 12
These recipes are all a bit high on the fat content. I think even using low fat peanut butter would still wouldn't lower the fat as low as I would like. Would anyone have a low fat recipe?
Well mine is purposely designed as a high fat, high protein, low carb bar. The fat is all healthy fat and the bar is far healthier than anything you will find in the store.
I just bought some imitation honey from the health food isle, it has zero calories, carbs, etc.... Haven't had a chance to try it but it does exist.
