1 month = 10 lbs gained so far

So I started trying to gain weight about a month ago.

I started at 128 (6'0) and I am now at 138 about a month later. I am hoping to get up to 160-170.

I've basically been eating every 2 - 3 hours and drinking a protien shake once a day. I eat fairly healthy. It's really cool to step on the scale and see my weight go up, almost addicting in a good way. I had always wanted to gain weight since I was in high school but for some reason I couldn't figure out that I had to eat eat eat to do so - what a concept eh?

The question I have is this - where do guys mainly gain their weight, does it eventually get distributed to legs/face etc? At the moment the only workout Im doing are some pushups/pullups and running 3 miles one night a week as Im going to boot camp in about 5 months.

I've ordered a platinum crossbow but its still not here and its been about 4 weeks - I wasn't planning on not being able to work out for this long and Im wondering if I should keep eating like I have without any real lifting? I do still need to gain weight - but I want it to go to the right places, will continuing to gain weight while not really lifting have a negative impact on anything once I DO start lifting?

Thanks.

First of all - major gratz on the progress. Sounds like you are happy and that means you are doing it right!

As far as WHERE you will gain weight. This is different for everyone and genetics plays a BIG part. When i started gaining weight, I first gained it my face and then my upper chest. That is just how I fill out. Some people may find they gain weight on legs of arms or back first. Different for everyone =)

Thanks Jakanden,

You're right I am happy so far with the progress I've made and I hope it continues.

I have always been insecure about my weight. In high school I couldn't even bench the 40 lb bar. Once out of high school I started lifting weights and gained a lot of strength all over - benching 190 etc. Even though I gained strength I still gained less then 5 - 8 lbs in mass. The reason for this was due to the fact that I was eating only 2 - 3 times a day - and I was working the same muscle groups almost every day!

This board has taught me a lot, I'm very happy I found it.

Adding mass is fine, but if you're not even lifting, get back to a sensible diet! The last thing you want to do is try to bulk up, but then just get fat. Get your body fat tested, and work out regularly to add mass. Eating in excess and not doing strength training is just going to get you fat.

So get your body fat tested, and make sure your body fat doesn't increase (by much) while you bulk. Or else you're going to spend 10x the time trying to cut the fat off so you look decent again...heh.

If you dont have any weights right now try that burpee workout thats a squat and a pushup in a few fluid movements...its pretty tough to pyramid a lot of em.
