Already searched...best pre-workout meal

I've read a lot of posts on here about pre-workout meals, however, I never really got a straight answer out of all the posts.

What are you more concerned with for weight lifting pre-workout meal, carbs or protein? How many calories should the intake be?

Thanks for your help :

You want a good balance of both but that being said, carbs are going to give you the energy you need to exercise. Noone can say exactly how much you need since everyone is different and it depends on the duration and intensity of your workout. I can only say what I personally eat pre-workout and that is somewhere in the neighbourhood of 40g protein, 60g carbs. That's 400 cals., but like I said, it's what i've found to work for me.

Whoa! You want a 'straight answer'? You probably won't get one with so many varied perspectives.

The first thing couple of things that I'd ask you (to provide you with my best answer) would be:
  • What is your gender?
  • What is your scale weight?
  • What is your approximate body fat level?
  • What kind of workout do you do (intensity & volume)?

I am a male, 6 foot even, 180 pounds and about 17% body fat. As far as intensity, When I hit the gym, its usually just weights with a moderate to high intensity doing 3-4 sets per an exercise with 8-10 reps.

Your body size sounds about like me ... awhile back. While individual metabolisms will vary, you might start with about 2500 calories per day (in 5 or 6 individual feedings). For some ideas on how I personally eat, you might read through the following:
Gaffer's Food Experiment
Creating a plan: workout & nutrition
Slimming Down
Workout Timing and Diet Tactics
Workout day vs nonWorkout day
My style of eating (food choices and meal combinations) is particular to who I am. Pick up what you can from the conversations and apply the principles to your own food choices and activity schedule.

Be sure and make adjustments to your diet and exercise schedule as you feel comfortable. Pay attention to how you feel, and to how your body responds to your self-prescribed plan.

Plan, evaluate, modify ... repeat cycle.
