Animal liver
I had pork liver for dinner last night and found it delicious as well as dirt cheap, low in fat and high in nutrients. But I was warned not to eat it too regularly since I may be ingesting some pig's urine and other waste products, so it might make me sick. Is this true?

Hi Yorkie
here are some facts about pork liver:
Vitamin A, B-12, iron, riboflavin, folate. Extremely high in cholesterol. Liver in the live product captures hormones. Also contains purines, so people with gout should avoid. May also trigger migraines.

by the way, there is no urine in the liver - urine is produced only in the kidney, but there may be some waste products

the only down side of liver is that it is high in colestral fats.
I think its 45% in the 100g of meat, but its not a health hazard its a very good source of vit B6 and 12, check it out on fitday, com before you go at me on this.
I just checked myself

Well considering this is where all the animals toxins as well as all chemicals given to it by man end up I stay away from it.
Its a good source of iron but not a great food in my opinion

Max i know yr a anti chemical man and always appreciate your advice.
But the toxins are broken down and discarded so surely its not that bad ?
I know there are some left when animal is killed but not enough to be a health hazard

I do not see any benefit to it that can not be got from other sources that wont be adding toxin remains to our own systems to deal with

I will happily let you have mine. Except livermush. I like that. Great bulking breakfast. Protein, carbs, fat...all in one meal.

- 1 fresh hog liver
- 1 and 1/2 pounds of fatty pork
- 2 cups cornmeal
- Red pepper
- Salt
- Black pepper
- Sage
Cook liver and fat pork until tender. Remove from broth the liver only and grind. Add corn meal, peppers, and sage to taste. Add enough of the broth to soften mixture. Cook in saucepan until meal has cooked, stirring constantly. Put in mold. Press down until cold. Slice and serve cold or better still - fried.
Now doesn't that sound good?

Yep, same critter.
Next, I plan to hunt the manbearpig. Not sure what it is but that's what we call it at work. Some kind of critter that makes some really weird noises in the woods behind the EMS office. As luck would have it, we are barely outside the city limits so shooting is alive.
