Question

Anyone keep a vegetable garden?

I was unable to last summer, due to a spring-time kidney stone (ordeal), but I usually put in a garden each season, and I plan on it this season. I usually plant tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, egg plant, broccoli, lots of types of peppers, gren beans, and pumpkins (for kids for Halloween). Usually something else thrown in there too. I'm aslo growing rhubarb, and it should be ready to harvest this season. Have a few apple trees too, but their not very fruitful.

Everythings pretty much organic ... I have resorted to some Sevin a few times, but no regular applications of anything else. We can pickles and jalepeno jelly , and usually some tomatoes too.

Anyone else garden for a hobby?

Tomatoes, basil, chives is about all I put in. I'm thinking of expanding it this year to include a few other items (peppers, snow peas, maybe green beans). I used to plant melons and pumpkins when the kids were younger.

I'll let others grow zuchinni and squash for me, lol They always seem to have an over abundance of those!

I'm a spoilt child! My dad just turned 80 this year and he has grown and abundant garden every year of my life (while my Mom is the goddess of flower gardening).

Needless to say that it's a waste of time to even start into it. He has a bumper crop every year of beans, peas, tomatos, beets, peppers, cucumbers, kolorabi(sp), carrots, parsnips, asparagus, and the odd experimental veggie.

One slice tomato sandwiches are not unheard of in the summer.

I just hope I've got the green thumb genes for when they move to "greener pastures". Until then I'll continue to make them happy by taking their excess.
