Are we all going to get cancer?!
here is the article...copy to browser... http://news.yahoo.com/s/hsn/20061207...oostcancerrisk So with this being shown, I need to bring up that lately I have noticed small little lumps of what I assume are fat in my abdomen area. When i look in the mirror with my shirt off and turn around, i notice some (2) on my lower back also...i have two more on the left side of my abs and one on the right side. I am a pretty lean person so these are noticeable. I asked a workout friend about them and he said it's normal for people who go from high bf % to low body fat. He said he has the same thing on his shins. My family doctor told me to just tell him if they get bigger or change shape (big help). I am a first year med student myself and we haven't learned about these things...I did some internet research and concluded that they are probably lipomas (benign fat tumors). Still, it would be much more comforting to know if there are other people with these things too...especially in those who have lost a lot of weight...

Yes, they are fatty tissue deposits. My husband has many of them. They are mostly genetic.

More BS. I would hazard to say that there are far more benefits to a high protein diet than there are drawbacks.
If the article is correct I'm in deep trouble........I ate 450g yesterday.

Buy in bulk, and look for sales.
My grocery bill works out to approx $120-150 per week for myself and my girlfriend.

These studies are flawed. They compared three groups;
1-low protein, low fat veggie diet on really lean people
2-althete runners with typical western diet
3-sedentary people with typical western diet.
How can one compare sedentary people to athletes and say one diet is superior to the other?
I see nothing wrong with protein intakes above 1 gms/lb of lean mass and lots of green veggies. That group wasn't compared.

I agree. How about comparing a high protein but still healthy diet, instead of the "typical Western" diet to vegetarian?

Very questionable
Question: How many of us want high growth hormone levels? I think we all know its physiological benefits.
Well IGF-1 the "cancer causer" is the main active of HGH.
So in conclusion cancer will be increased by good sleep and resistance training.
Logically growing youths with higher GH activity will have a higher cancer rate than the elderly with lower Gh levels.
While we are at it lets try to supress our testosterone and oestroen levels as well which can be linked to cancer growth.
Obviously and unfortunatly if someone has a cause for cancer proliferation substances which promote cell growth can promote this cancer.

Don't sweat it so much. Eat a generally healthy diet, get exercise, work towards your specific goals, and be happy. Live a generally healthy lifestyle that makes you happy. If that happiness comes along with a hardcore bodybuilding lifestyle and diet - go for it. If it comes from a hardcore pizza eating powerlifter lifestyle and diet - go for it. If it comes from a vegan lifestyle - again, go for it. Just enjoy it, enjoy the time you have, and don't fret too much over the rest of it
We aren't promised tomorrow or the next day so enjoy your life the best you can without giving yourself a tumor from worrying about cancer.

Sometimes we get awakened to the fact that we aren't going to be here forever so why worry about it so much. When it happens, it happens. The sh*tty part of the deal is most of us will actually make it long enough to have to pay taxes at least one more time.

The effect of dietary protein on the promotion of cancer is addressed in some detail in T. Colin Campbell's book, 'The China Study': Another good reference is 'The Cancer Project'.
::: THE CHINA STUDY :::
Cancer Project / a Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) site
These and other references, provide convincing evidence that the risks of developing or surviving cancer are heavily influenced by diet and lifestyle. It's not just eating excessive amounts of protein that put individuals at higher risk of developing cancer, it's also the absence of protective foods (fruits and vegetables) and poor lifestyles (lack of exercise, smoking) that put people at risk.
These are all choices that correctly made, can add decades of healthy, productive years to a person's life.
