I heard parts of his speech covered on the local radio station. Basically he said that Californians have gained 360 million pounds over the last ten years. I plan on sending a letter to the Governor's Office asking for an explanation of how his staff made that determination. Maybe I'll get bold and ask how many of his added pounds contribute to the total.
Edit
Here is the e-mail that I just sent to the Governor's Office:
Dear Governor,
I heard part of the Governor's speech on the local radio about obesity in California. The Governor stated that Californians have gained 360 million pounds in the last decade.
I would like to receive a detailed calculation of how this amount was determined and who I may contact about the assumptions in the calculation if needed.
I have a lifelong passion of fitness and health, and also for the reliability of information that our government officials provide. I would just like to be able to determine if the Governor's statement is supported by reasonable assumptions.
I appreciate any response that you can provide.

If I get a response, I'll share it.
