Bad breath/halitosis

I figured I'd post this here since it could be diet related. Not referring to the usual suspects like garlic or onions, or spicy foods. Does anyone get really bad breath from dairy products specifically?

Anyone have great oral hygiene (also no cavities or gum disease) but still plagued by it?

Not drinking enough water can lead to bad breath. Also, if you are in ketosis you tend to have bad breath.

Yep, if you are burning fat, your breath probably smells like someone's butt.

Dairy product eaters tend to stink to non dairy product eaters. You know how many asians smell like garlic to western people...guess what - we smell like stinky cheese to them. Your diet contributes to the way you smell more than almost any other factor. If you don't like "dairy breath" find suitable alternatives.

If I don't eat something every 2-3 hours, then my mouth smells like a bison's musty ass. I always keep gum on me for those times where I won't be able to eat my next meal in time.

Ever smell sulfer? It stinks! The stinky breath you experience comes from consuming animal products that are high in sulfer containing amino acids - methionine, for example. Methionine is an essential amino acid that is also present in plant foods but in small amounts.

Here's an interesting article on the subject:

Generally though, the sulphur from protein digestion comes out the other way - not the breath. Cows don't eat much protein. They pass more flatus than many other critters but it doesn't smell that bad. Cats eat almost all protein and fat - they have very smelly flatus. Neither burn much body fat, neither have very bad breath.

My cats always had sticky fish breath. Now that I switched to dogs as pets, my dog has a similar stinky fish breath.

Grew up with animals. Guess who's job it was to clean out the barn? We kept hogs, cattle, and horses. Grew our own produce and feed. Over the years, one makes many generally useless observations.

Nope, it was mine. Cows really don't care who is standing behind them - not very good manners.
