Candy before exercise, protein powder after ?

I love candy.
But I'm cutting so it has become a forbidden fruit.
My post workout drink consists of 20g dextrose + 46g protein powder.
But I take no pleasure from the dextrose.

So it got me thinking - what if I eat candy before exercise - to get the sugar in, then after exercise I take just the protein powder ? I'm taking candy before exercise because it has fats, to it will take time to spike insulin.
By candy I'm thinking aabout a protein bar or zoneperfect bar

Try it. It may not be optimal, but as long as you stay within your caloric need for the day, it won't be harmful. May work well for you. I'd rather have my body concentrating on building muscle rather than digesting solid food, but I don't see any real harm in eating one of those bars preworkout.

Have the candy afterwards, before your protein drink.

Sucrose isn't optimal, but if you're going to consume it, that would be the time.

If you consume it pre-workout you're likely to have a crash midway through (depending on your insulin sensitivity of course).

F-Mac, wouldn't some candy about 30 minutes before the workout give some extra energy?

I drink coffee in the gym, but candy may do it too.

It probably would, but because it's pure sucrose it's going to get shuttled into the bloodstream and used/stored pretty quickly. Perhaps if he munched on it throughout the workout.......(same effect as drinking gatorade or something I suppose)

I'm just picturing someone walking into the gym with a big container of gummi worms under their arm......lol.

Or some oreos?

But what was mentioned wasn't real candy. More of a protein/fat/carb bar. Designed for such things.

Yeah, but they are dextrose aren't they?

Taste just like the dextrose tabs I had to carry around all the time when I was doing the low fat thing. Haven't gotten dizzy and needed them in over a week now though.

I dont want to consume it beforehand because the fat etc in candy will slow down digestion.
How long after eating the candy/muffin does the insulin spike ?
I'm talkiing eating candy and jumping right into weights.
