Carbs from fruit + veg?

Hey all,

I've been eating pretty well lately, but decided just out of interest I'd tally up what I'm eating again. Turns out I need lots more protein (which I knew anyway) but I seem to be getting LOADS of carbs in my diet from fruit and vegetables. Is this a good thing when on a cutting diet? For my 2 daytime meals I'll have an apple, banana and raw carrot (in morning and afternoon) with my sandwiches. I'll also have vegetables with my evening meal.

Like I say, just concerned that I'm getting far too many carbs taking into account that I'm trying to cut at the minute!

Cheers
Rich

Well they're all different types of carbs. An apple contains around 30g of carbs in the way of fructose. The great thing about veggies is that they contain extremely low amounts of carbs, in a bag of salad there's going to be around 0.6g of carbs to 100g of salad....making them excellent for cutting since you can eat as much as you wish, I say your doing fine.

Also most fruit is fine to eat even when cutting because Fructose is an insulin-indpenedant sugar. It does not need a significant insulin release to metabolise. Combine that with all the minerals, vitamins and fiber and they cant be beat.

Just make sure to keep it in check with your overall calorie/macronutrient limit (Whatever they may be).

My experience is that getting your carbs from (mainly) vegetables and (some) fruit is an ideal approach when trying to cut body fat. The bulk associated with the vegetables (as Lee says, you get to eat a lot of them) helps one cope with an otherwise low caloriie diet.

Thanks for the info. I'm going to cut down just a tad on the fruit and try to eat more veggies methinks. Also, salad is a great idea I'll have a shop around over the weekend.

I think my diet must be working as I've lost about 5-6% BF in the 2-3 months I've been on it. Just trying to tweak the diet now, so I can lose the last little bits of fat!

Long, long road (but we love it don't we? )

Berries are a great way to get your fruit in without overloading on the fructose.

Red raspberries are excellent, strawberries as well. Blueberries are a tad higher in carbs, but again, good carbs. I eat clementines too.
