Cereals

I was wondering. Are cereals such as Total, Wheaties, or Special K good for you? Would it or would it not be a good idea to eat something like this before a workout?(provided I use skim milk)

I appreciate any feeback concerning my question.

You would want just enough carbs pre-workout to give you your required energy, I should think a highly processed bowl of cereal may be slightly too much carbs for you to burn off. I wouldn't personally eat a bowl before workout

Thanks Lee JB.
I normally eat peanut butter on toasted whole wheat bread before a workout. Is that good?

Watch the peanut butter, It can be quite bad if your cutting and using large amounts...... What you have there doesnt sound too bad actually. I normally have a shake with moderate protein, justthe right amount of carbs for me, and a teaspoon sized helping of peanut butter in a shake about 15mins before.

Cool..
I always use reduced fat peanut butter.

So the toasted wheat bread is an ok food to eat before workout as well, I take it.

I just want to get on the right path. Dieting is so hard for me. I've heard that once you get used to knowing what to eat, it's simple.
I hope so, because what I assume is good for you, I get a report saying it isn't. It's good to come to a site like this to get info.

Antony.

Thanks Cursor.

I normally workout out the first thing in the morning. I get up around 5:00a.m., eat my preworkout meal, take supplements, and then head to the gym by 5:30a.m.

Like I said before, I'll usually have toasted wheat bread and a spoon full of low fat peanut butter. I don't have too much time in the morning because I have be ready for work 2 hours afterwards. So therefore my preworkout meals are usually very small....and I head to the gym after eating. Cursor, I saw where you said wait 90 minutes to workout...Being that I have a time issue, I can't wait for that length of time to workout. I have to get the gym ASAP, so that I won't be late for work.

So is eating what I eat and then heading to the gym a
Good idea? bad idea? Should I up earlier?(virtually impossible to do), Do I have to wait 90 minutes before a workout or is what I'm doing ok?

I virtually never eat before my morning workouts (weights or cardio). I'm finding that I not only get MORE focused intensity, but good results this way.

I almost always feel sluggish for an hour so after eating. If I ate before my morning workout, I'd have to get up at like 3:30 in order to actually be able to complete the workout and get to work on time.

I most definitely do not buy the "you'll lose muscle mass" argument against working out in a fasted state. I'm gaining muscle this way, something I was never really able to do before.

If time is a constraint, then you might consider consuming a fast-absorbing, yet well-balanced meal. You certainly won't want to pump so much of it down that you feel bloated (thus interferring with your workout), but you will need to make sure that you'll have enough nutrition for your lifting. Try a tasty shake. Since I haven't had an MRP yet that I like, I'll typically make my own. Here's an example.
