I don't agree with many of their recommendations. Why?
- How can anything deep fried be considered healthy? Pork rinds
- Sour cream and coconut tastes wonderful in monderation (they kill my stomach).
- Chocolate only if it is dark chocolate, and only on an occasion, not daily.
- Beef jerky is a must when I travel. I found a pepper turkey jerky that is wonderful.
- Alcohol may help prevent some health conditions but do create others. I find it very hard to maintain leanness with more than a drink or two per week.

deep fried would make me believe most of them unsaturated fats are trans.
Dark chocolate can and is even good to take daily no more than 3 squares.
Alcohol is a poison and dreadful for physiques no one under 40 should use its CV effects as an excuse to take it

It's entertainment!
Sure all those things are true (in context) but the average person who needs to know those things does not know the true meaning of moderation or portion control let alone self control. How many people do you know that know enough to read the ingredient list of a chocolate/candy bar to know whether it is made from cocoa, cocoa butter, chocolate liquor, artificial flavour etc. They are not all the same.
Also the recommended choices are also the most expensive ones and no always easily available.
Foods have fads and trends too. This is a prime example. I love plain old rice cakes. They give me a base for my peanut butter or almond butter. I never stopped eating full fat dairy products either.
Pork rinds are nasty no matter how you fry them! !
Alcohol can be a better cheaper anti- depressant than meds but most people again go overboard because they have this more is better mentality or a concept of entitlement because of their condition. It's a drug, respect it like one and no harm done. I can still remember a time when doctors would smoke in their office and also recommend having a cigarette or two to their patients who were stressed out!

Meh. Everything in moderation. Although I don't think I could *ever* touch a pork rind!
As for the alcohol recommendation - why are so many people jumping on this bandwagon? Whatever supposed cardiovascular benefits you could derive from it can also come from exercise, better stress management, nutrition, etc. Nothing changes the fact that alcohol is a poison.

If you do well for weight loss on a higher fat, lower carb diet, pork rinds are fine. Or at least they were for me. When I lowered my cholesterol and lost all the weight I used them once in a while for a "fill in snack" if I got hungry before my next scheduled feeding. I didn't gorge on them of course, it doesn't take much of them to satisfy hunger. Would eating bag after bag of them be good or healthy? I doubt it.
However there is something to be said for taking the skin off of a hog and frying it in lard...mmm mmm tasty.

yes but downers are often prescribed for people with depression anxiety ("like" heals "like") e.g. valium. Just like caffeine can be good for those with ADD rather than taking Ritalin.

This article obviously doesn't have the same standard fro "healthy" as we all do. For average people, however, a dark chocolate candy bar would be healthier than tons of tortilla chips. Like most foods, moderation is key- rice cakes are fine as long as you make sure not to over eat- like Brat said, she puts peanut butter on them, which makes for a nutritious snack.

When I was 5 the doc put me on 3 cups of coffee a day to keep me from getting kicked out of school. Good stuff, helped me focus, stay out of the office, stop getting paddled, stopped beating up the other kids...It really worked.
Now though, I'm a bit addicted to coffee. I cut my caffiene off at 10 am though and never drink more than 1 pot by myself. Better than ritalin though. I know some adults that were put on that stuff when we were kids, they are still on it and act like crack heads. Some of them are real crackheads.
Me, I'm just a coffeehead full of joy and love for my fellow humans.
I think my Mom and Doc made the right choice with the caffeine. I'd go thank him, but he got ran over by a horse and died a few years later.

My uncle was a DR. in a small town. He used to get parents coming in asking to have their kids put on Ritalin because the school principle strongly suggested it and because it was a new trend. He didn't believe in medicating kids because they are over-stimulated. He suggested coffee or even a glass of Coke if necessary.
"Happy Hour" was not a fluke. It was created in response to a need. Too bad for many it goes too far. It's socially acceptable to have a drink or two, but it's "shameful" to have depression or be on meds for it or have a drinking problem! Go figure that one.

Well, the drinking problem isn't healthy. The shameful thing would be to have depression or any other mental difficulty and NOT get help or go on meds if they are needed.

The dr just prescribed a milder version of treatment most likely for a less severe add case. Ritalin is a stimulant like caffeine.
