Question

Confusion

I have been doing a bunch of searching and reading on here tonight, and I have yet to be able to find the answer to my question.

I have found a lot of posts and articles about the benefits of bulking and cutting. While that is all and good, my goal is not to really get ripped, or do any sort of body building. My overall goal is to lose some body fat and gain some definition in my upper body. In the past 5 months I have lost almost 30 lbs. This came from good dieting (usually 1500-1800 calories a day), cutting out soda, and performing cardio 30 minutes a day 5 or 6 days a week.

However now I have begun working out with a personal trainer. We're lifting an hour a day 4-5 days a week. I told my trainer about how I had been sticking with my diet and he told me that I should be eating around 2200 calories a day. I don't want to really gain fat, but lose it and increase my definition in my chest and upper body in general.

Any suggestions as to what sort of diet I should be on would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

-J

Give us some personal staistics. Age, height, weight, BF%, things like that. Your trainer maybe right if you are not eating enough calories. You could be losing a lot of muscle if you are not eating enough.

you're with a trainer - follow his/her advice.

my own is to increase your protein intake.

I'm sorry, here are some of my personal Stats:

Age: 22
Weight: 137
Height: 5'6"
Sex: Male
BF%: 16-17% (according to the test linked to in this thread.

As for the personal trainer. I'm trying to get as much input as possible. The trainer I have is at Arizona State University's Student Recreation Complex, because of that he is a student in Kinesieology and doesn't have much experience under his belt.

Thanks

Don't be afraid to experiment some. Eat a little bit more on the days that you workout with weights (particularly around your lifting sessions). As long as you don't increase your intake dramatically, you'll probably be just fine. Don't expect too much, too soon.
