Corn

I'm trying to cut out simple carbs late in the day, and was wondering if corn is in that category? Is it okay to have corn with dinner if I'm trying to cut out carbs?

Corn - cut off 1/2 cup serving
Calories 100. Carbs 30g. Fiber 1g. Net carbs 29g. Protein 2g. Sugars 5g.

It's more of a starchy carb than a sugary carb. But still, if fat loss is your goal you would probably want to choose something leafy and green. It is a great bulking food though.

Note: we feed it to the pigs every day when we are fattening them up and to the cattle to marble them out for slaughter.

I'm not sure that corn counts as a "simple" carb, but I guess it depends how you define it. When I think of "simple" carbs, I think of things like sweets or soda. I thought bread, pasta, potatoes, corn, etc were considered complex.

Anyway, if you're worried about it, you can't go wrong with green. Just don't use a low-carb diet as a reason to cut out/cut down on veggies.

Corn, like most veggies, is a complex-carbohydrate. It is really a grain and not a veggie, that is why it is so dense in calories. I would limit is late in the day if you are worried about it.

You could still eat it earlier in the day if that's part of your nutrition plan.

I still kind of think of grains as feed rather than food. Yeah, I know they've got their benefits and I even eat whole wheat bread on my carb loading meals. But if you are cutting back with a carb cut off or something similar - corn or any other higher carb food will have to be earlier in the day.
