VH1: How has your workout regime changed over the years?

Usher: My workout has gone from physical to mental. I went from doing like a thousand push-ups a day to now barely making a hundred, because I'm always working. I'm not gonna say I'm chubby, fat or out of pocket. I'm looking good! But you have to be more selective about how you eat.

VH1: So what's your diet like?

U: I'm on a see-food diet, right now - I see it, I eat it. In a second, I'll go back. I'm very disciplined. When I don't want to eat, I won't eat. I go on a fish, chicken and broccoli diet, and throw in some carbs - preferably sweet potatoes. Unless I'm near Mister Chows. Whenever I'm near Mister Chows, I lose myself. I have to have that mandarin dessert!

That was on vh1.com, not sure if it's what you're looking for.

not at all - he was evidently overtraining before. doing too much exercise makes you weaker because you're not giving your muscles time to recover.

well, they would be, in a more or less auxiliary capacity (ie, they're not doing the full load, but are helping your chest, back, shoulders, etc do the work). that's why proper form is so essential: when benching, for example, using a close grip will put more emphasis on the triceps instead of the chest where it should be.

traditionally, one would do chest and triceps together and back and biceps. i switched them: i do chest and biceps, back and triceps. this is because the main auxiliary muscle isn't being pre-exhausted and i can put more focus on it.

Eh, I wouldn't call 1000ish push-ups overtraining for someone who is used to doing them. 100 defenitely isn't enough for a chest workout for someone that developed. He's probably lifting weights, the whole thing sounded like a joke

it probably was, but personally, i'd call 1000 pushups "too damned much time on his hands" and not enough sex.

Haha, nah when I didn't have weight access I was doing upwards of 350-400 in about 20-30 minutes via sets of 35-40+. 1000 is a lot (and probably pointless unless you just like doing a lot of push-ups), but if his endurance was up from mine and he was capable of doing them in sets of anywhere from 50-100, then he could be done with 1000 in no longer than the average chest workout.
