Use the search function on DF, you will find plenty of advice on putting together a nutritional diet.

Has a bunch of information on different types of diets. Not all of them are good.

I don't think that is a good link. It has lots of fad diets referenced.
Just stick to lots of fresh foods (fruits, veggies, whole grains, and lean meats) and you will do fine.

www.fitday.com and www.nutritiondata.com will give you all kinds of information about *what* you're eating (nutrient count, etc), but so will the labels on the food.
fitday can also help you preplan what you're going to eat for the day.
after that, it's just a matter of determining what profile you want to follow.
www.freedieting.com/tools/nutrient_calculator.htm has a nutrient calculator: plug in the total number of calories you want to eat each day, choose the profile (high protein, high carb, moderate carb, etc), click "calculate". at the bottom, a link shows you how to set up a zigzag diet, where your average daily calories come out to whatever you choose, but you alternate higher and lower calories to prevent those annoying plateaux.
EDIT: oops, my bad - the zigzag calculator is in the calorie calculator: http://www.freedieting.com/tools/calorie_calculator.htm

I know its not a website but the "Abs Diet" Book has a good breakdown of foods. Plus it has tons of recipes you can use.

I like the simplicity and effectiveness of the non-scientific No-S diet (no sweets, no seconds and no snacks, except on days that begin with an S).

sorry - there's a lot of fundamental flaws in that page.
example, "no sugar" - but it's okay to put sugar in your coffee or tea? that doesn't even make sense, since many ppl drink a lot more coffee with milk or cream and sugar in it than they drink pop.
the "merciless deconstruction" of the three-hour diet is nothing more than a chat thread where a bunch of ppl discuss why they think it couldn't possibly work and make comments like "i don't think our pioneering ancestors stopped the wagon every three hours" as evidence to back themselves up. stating that eating every three hours means you'll eat "substantially" more just demonstrates that they haven't actually looked at how it's done.

That's why I referred to it as "non-scientific". Basically it fosters 3 square meals a day. What I have found is that when you eat 3 square meals a day, with no snacks, you make darn sure that you fill your plate with a variety of good food and you eat well because you are hungry.
Don't knock it if you haven't tried it.

you kidding? that's how we traditionally ate.
didn't work.
aside from that, i have a problem with someone who goes trashing other diets for using the "magic potion/poison pill" approach and who then does the exact same thing.

I beg to differ. It did work when the activity was there to support the food consumed. But as modern life has grown in the number of conveniences we have (remote control for the TV, electric can opener, garage door openers, excessive time watching TV, internet, etc.), sitting too much, not enough manual labor and play time, an abundance of fast foods and processed and packaged, easy-to-prepare foods, our daily caloric expenditures have decreased and our daily caloric consumption has increased. That is probably why you weigh more than you should, and the reason I have to work hard to make sure that I don't weigh more than I should.
This way of eating is efficient and would work well for the individual that started this thread.

The No "S" diet looks to me to be a sound starting place for someone who is just getting started on a healthy lifestyle who doesn't want to have to put too much thought and study into nutrition at first.
As one learns more and as they approach one goal and set new ones then they will evolve their diet as need be.
I started with something similar - eat when hungry. No sugar, no starch.
It got me off to a good start. Then the things I learned here reading the various nutrition threads helped me learn more and as my needs changed, I was able to change with them - except for the whole eat enough calories thing...still working on that.
For our thread starter - it looks like being already thin - there is a need for plenty of protein, plenty of complex carbs, and loads of green veggies. Not too much fat.
